Answers the Final Summons G.A. Dillon Dies at the Home of His Daughter, Mrs. A.M. Rose Wednesday, Dec. 12. Gibson Andrew Dillon was born in Tippacanoe county, Indiana, July 18th, 1832, and died December 12th, 1906, aged 74 years, 4 months and 14 days. His parents, Arthur and Nancy Dillon, with their family removed to Iowa in 1887 [1887 is crossed out, "1837?" pencilled in] where they settled on a farm, where he learned the habits of industry. He was united in marriage with Sarah Matthews May 20, 1855. this union was blessed with six children, Geo. T., Milton Bailey, Elizabeth Adaline, David Arthur, Maud Elba, and Mrytle Bell, four of who were present to perform the last sad duties of children for a parent. With his family he moved to Benton county in 1868. The wife and mother departed this life Sept. 2d, 1883. He continued to make this his home until April 1895, when he was married to Hannah Henderson when he again returned to Cedar county where he resided until after her death which occurred in April, 1899. He then returned to Vinton and has since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. A.M. Rose, who with her husband tenderly ministered to his needs as he passed into the valley of the shadow. Father Dillon was formerly a member of the Disciples church but united with the Presbyterian church of Vinton in 1900. he was a consciencious christian and his faith sustained him to the end. The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. A.M. Rose Thursday forenoon, conducted by his pastor Rev. S.S. Hilscher. The body was laid away in the Evergreen cemetery. Dillon, one of Vinton's old pioneers, passed into the great beyond Wednesday morning at 3 o'clock after an illness of about a month. Mr. Dillon has been in poor health for more than a year. He came to Benton county in 1868, and has since been a resident here. he wa sa man of sterling worth, a useful citizen and a kind and indulgent father. he leaves four children: Mrs. A.M. Rose of Vinton, Mrs. Salter and M.B. Dillon of Cedar Rapids, and D.A. Dillon of Des Moines. The funeral will be held this morning. Benton County Times December 13, 1906 Both typed 1996 by D.
