Most of my more recent Ward's lived in and around Norton and Decatur Counties in Kansas. My mother was born there as was my grandfather. Two generations before that are buried there, so genealogy for that family was not hard until even further back. Prior to Kansas the Wards lived in Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois. And before that it is believed they came from England.
My first cousin now desceased was a DAR member under Leonard Reager as am I. On doing research I found that one of our Reager's came on the same ship as Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) and the chapter I belong to just happens to be Marion Chapter which is named after him.
My uncle John Henry Ward 11-27-1906 Norcatur, Kansas to 7-2-1975 Oberlin, Kansas Married 7-31-1927 Norcatur, Kansas to Marcella Clea Hilsinger. They had three children. John Henry Ward Jr 1-16-1931 to 7-23-1987, Sandra Yvonne Ward Russell 6-6-1933 to 11-11-1991 (the above cousin who was in DAR), and another daughter.
Violet Phoebe Ward Niceschwander and John Henry Ward Sr were the only children of Clyde Spencer and Gladys (Frewen) Ward.
Jonas Ward is my oldest Ward grandparent known for sure at this time. The family Bible says Parents are Jonas and Phebe Ward but this is the only place we have found this couple. |
