A tragic episode signalized the observance at Christmas near Winslow, which may result in the death of one of the parties concerned.Deputy U.S. Marshall, George REED,assisted by T. POULTON called at the house of Jack HATTABAUGH and told him that he was under arrest."The hell you say" was the answer to the summons. But the prisioner changed his tone of address and asked the officer to wait til he got his overcoat. While donning the overcoat he drew from one of its pockets a revolver and aimed it at Deputy POULTON, who quickly discharged his weapon and a ball penitrated the head of HATTABAUGH an inch and a half deep.He fell, and the blood flowing from the right side of his head and the wound is probably fatal. The arrest was made upon the complaint charging him with making and passing counterfeit money. His brothers, Robert and Melton were also arrested and brought to this city, where they are now confined in jail. But they are held only for the purpose of obtaining evidence against Jack and others who are under suspicion.(A few words were cut short)
