Cobb Family Timeline
One of the reasons I established this timeline was to differenciate my Cobb family line from other Cobb families. I used to get emails from other Cobb researchers asking me for information on their relatives, who were not actually in my family. Cobb is like Smith, folks.....not all Cobbs are related. My Cobb family settled in New York, and is not related to Cobb families found in the Southern United States. We're Yankees, and proud of it. And before anyone in my family even mentions.....no, folks, we are not, not not not, in any way, shape or form, related to Ty Cobb.

The Johns family arrives in the United States.1875: April; John Cobb Sr. dies in Ridgeway, Orleans, New York. He is laid to rest at Bates Road Cemetery.
The 1875 Census for Ridgeway lists Mary Cobb, widow, born in England and 55 years of age as living with her son, John Cobb, who is 34, a farmer and also born in England. It then lists William Cobb, 32, a carpenter born in England and his wife Emma, 28 years of age and also born in England. Living with them are the following children: Cora J. age 7, Minnie age 5, and William F, 2 years and 3 months. (How I would have loved to see him as a baby!)

The 1900 Census for Albion shows that aunt Ruby, then 15, was living with William and Emma. It also shows a daughter, Cora Gorman, 32, widow. When I found this information, I cried for quite some time; we had always thought that Aunt Cora had never married. If Mr. Gorman is listed in Family Records, he's in records I don't have. I would dearly love to find him. I have a photograph of Aunt Cora, probably taken in the 1930's. She's standing outside, beside a two-storey white house, holding a grey tabby kitten very close to her face. So now that I know she was married, and was widowed young (on top of taking care of her parents until their deaths), I begin to understand the sadness in her eyes.
The 1900 Census for Albion also shows "Frederick Johns, 34, born in England, farmer; wife Minnie E. Cobb, 29; son Henry B., 3." It shows his brother's household as well: "Harry Johns, 31, born in England, farmer; wife Mary E. Smith, 29, born in New York, parents from Germany; son Arthur J., born in May in New York."
