Eldon Gilmore was born April 21, 1915 in New Florence, Missouri. His parents were Pearl Sanford Gilmore and Josie May Good. Eldon was the 5th child of seven born to Pearl and Josie. Eldon's family made several moves between Missouri and Montana, however Eldon is the only child born in Missouri. His parents had several homes in Montana, some included, Judith Gap, Dodson and Chinook.
When Eldon was 23 he married Evelyn May Kindle in Malta, Montana. They had a son and a daughter wthin the next two years. He had numerous occupations and they lived in several locations. Their son was born in Thompson Falls, Montana in 1938 and their daughter was born in Malta, Montana in 1940. Eventually he and Evelyn divorced in 1954.
During his lifetime Eldon worked in mines at Zortman, Montana, at the sugar beet factory in Chinook, Montana, as a hired ranch hand in Malta, Montana and on his own ranches. His favorite occupation was being a rancher. Eventually he owned his own ranch north of Chinook, Montana and it is the place he retired on in his later years.
Eldon remarried in 1956 to Marian Jenette Abrahamson. He and Marian combined families and then added two more sons. Eldon and Marian moved to the ranch north of Chinook in the 1960's. They not only raised children but plenty of livestock, chickens, turkeys, pigs, sheep and cattle. Two things Eldon seemed to take pride in were his family and animals. He was known to his grandchildren as Grandad and he took pride in all they accomplished. Eldon spent many hours reading. He preferred westerns but would read anything that was handy. He also loved to play his guitar and during many family occasions he joined other family members in music jams for entertainment.
