


Margaret H. Dale - Obituary published in The News & Observer on Tuesday, August 4, 1998:
LANCASTER, PA -- Margaret Hippey Dale, 91, died Tuesday at home of natural causes. Mrs. Dale served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in England, Africa and Italy during World War II. After the war, she served for 18 years as chief of the nursing service at Kennedy Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring in 1964 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Upon her return to Lancaster, she was appointed associate director of the Community Council of Lancaster. In this position, she recruited individuals to serve as board members in organizing community programs such as Meals on Wheels and the Council on Alcoholism. She was a 1924 graduate of the former Stevens Girls High School and a 1928 graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing. She earned her bachelor's degree from Columbia University, NY, and master's degree from Memphis University, Memphis, Tenn.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Additionally, she was a member of the American Nurses Association, American Legion Post 34, and League of Women Voters.
She was a life member of the USA Reserve Association and the Retired Officers Association.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Allen C. and Philomenia Schmidt Hippey.
Her husband, Dr. Grove Cleveland Dale, died in 1993.
The last of her immediate family, she is survived by six nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 31 in Lancaster, PA. Graveside service at the Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Seven Springs, NC, Saturday August 1 at 11 a.m.
