


William Wood, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth are the some of the earliest documented Wood ancestors from Sampson County, North Carolina. At this time, Elizabeth's surname has not been determined. However, she is referenced in William Wood's will. William and Elizabeth farmed and lived in Sampson County most of their lives. They or their families may have migrated from Virginia or from the eastern part of North Carolina near New Bern.
They most likely lived close to the Johnston County line, and may have even owned land that connected with Johnston County. Many of their offspring lived in the most southern part Johnston County. The Wood name is so well known in this area that there is an intersection named Woods Crossroads:

The house was located on Godwin Lake Road in Johnston County, North Carolina, until it was torn down to make way for Interstate 40. The Larry Wood Family Cemetery is across the road from where this house used to stand.
