William Henry Wood was born in 1862, to Thomas Wood and Penelope Massengill. Penelope died during childbirth, and William Henry was raised by someone else.
On August 8, 1882 William Henry married Julia Bethany Lee. She was the daughter of Joseph J. and Patsy Lee. For awhile the family lived in Elevation Township. He and his wife had seven children.
Ada was born September 1886. She married Al Creech. Peninah was born November 1890. She married T.T. Parnell. Ida was born November 1893. She married W.B. Edwards. Elbert (Jack) was born July 1896. He married Mary McKeel. Elmon was born September 1898. He married Bell Brown. Danus was born September 5, 1902. He married Annie Starling. Harvey Lawrence was born October 12, 1907. He married Pauline Dail.
Before 1914 the family had moved to Wilson Mill's Township. That is where William Henry Wood died. On August 7, 1914, William Henry and one of his sons were walking by the house of a certain man. The man, who had been drinking, started quarrelling with William Henry about a dog that had been shot the spring before. Why the two men were still feuding over the dead dog is not known, but the man got his shotgun and shot William Henry in the presence of his own son. The man turned himself over to the authorities and only served four months in jail.
The youngest son of William Henry Wood was Harvey Lawrence Wood. He married Pauline Dail on October 29, 1933. She was the daughter of Charles Cleveland Dail and Lela Batten. Harvey was a farmer all of his life. In 1935 the family moved from Johnston County to Duplin County. There they had seven children.
William Danus was the first born child. He died on May 20, 1937. Edna Ann was born December 21, 1937. She is married to James Jefferson Smith. Lena Pearl was born December 3, 1939. She is married to Kenneth Rabon Deans. Sarah Bethany was born April 1, 1942. She is married to David W. Strickland. David Earl was born May 26, 1945. He was married to Susan Johnson. Patsy Lee was born July 29, 1948. She was married to C.M. Page. Charles Edward was born August 9, 1950. He is married to Rose Mary Mooring.
Harvey Wood died on December 25, 1950. After his death; with the help of relatives, Pauline moved her family to Wayne County. She raised the children alone. Pauline Dail Wood died November 13, 1980.
