Returned from picket day vey pleasant, all quiet, a flag of truse came
ovr from viscburg ths evening
Monday 2
In camp all day, weather fine, the enemy quiet, Went on the canal in the
after- noon to work
Tuesday 3
Came in camp at 9 o clock from the canal day pleasant, the enemy sheld
our canal and drove the men of of the work
Wednesday 4
Went with the compay to work on the canal the enemy comenced Shelling at
11 o clock and continued in till 1/2 l o clock finished our part of

Thursday 5
In camp all day with the exception of going to the boat a few heavy guns
from the enemy to day
Friday 6
Wrote to my Wife this morning No of leter 22 In camp all day every thing
very Quiet

Wrote to my Mother 3 The Water Broke through the Canal this morning and
is a washing the levey vey fast
Sunday 8
In camp un till 11 in the evening, moved on the levey Sent 2 papers and
a leter home No 23, and a leter to my Brother No 3, it raind this
evening, moved on the levee
Monday 9
In camp all day. cold and Raind at knight three prisners captured, our
gun- boats attacked the town last knight .

Went with a detail of fifty men on the J.Y.[?] Taylor. the balance of
the day in camp, vey mudy and raind nearly all day

In camp all day the weather warm and pleasant Received a leter from John
Cooper and answered it
