The reason given  for our Alexander coming to America was  " The Potato Famine".  This would place them here sometime the late 1700 to the mid 1800's.  I have found indications this was the time they arrived in America.   I have traced our Alexander's back to Nicholas County, Kentucky.  Jesse was born there in 1811.

There is a death certificate stating that William Elliot Alexander  was  born: 11September 1857, in Decatur County, Indiana,  and died: 05 February 1905, North Vernon, Jennings County, Indiana.
It also states that
William's parents were: Father Jesse Alexander b. KY   Mother: Eliza Stoops born KY.

Jesse M. and Eliza (Stoops) Alexander, are found in many records living in  Nicholas County, Kentucky.

The 1900 Census for Eldon Twp.  Anderson,  Madison County, Indiana (above) his birth is given as Sept 1857.   His age is given as  42.

With the exception of a "much older brother James, who was by then married and living in Indianapolis", William was said to be the only family member surviving the Cholera Epidemic that hit Decatur County in 1866.
