If you live in London (England) you can go to Myddleton Street. Where they have:- the b.d.m.'s indices the census records for 1841, 51, 61, 71, 81 & 91 and wills up to 1858. You can look up a b.d.m. & order the certificate for just £ 6. 50 pence each. Wills can be photocopied for ( think) 25p a sheet.

Go to the Cornwall Family History Society offices in Truro. (they hold most of the Cornish records plus a lot for all England, including the b.d.m.'s.) Cornwall is putting up a new building which will contain the Cornwall Record Office and the CFHS - it will be like Aladdin's cave for researchers. (All right - I know it costs money to belong but you cannot take it with you) If you are a member you can order certificates at their website  http://www.cfhs.demon.co.uk/Society For members they will do a five year search and get the certificate for £10 .50 They accept cheques from Australia, Canada & the USA.

 I believe they will do a five year search & supply the certificate for £ 11.00 or £ 8 .00 if you know the full references. I think they accept Visa cards.

However there is no guarantee that your ancestor's b.d.m. was ever recorded.
