He married Margaret. According to the 1850 Census, Rabun County, Georgia, John was a blacksmith and the value of his estate was $1,000.00

John Keener and Margaret had the following children:

3 ii. W. C. Keener was born 1836. W. C. Keener? his occupation was a farmer. Unclear as to whether he was a part of this family or just living with them.

4 iii. John F. Keener was born 1840.

5 iv. Sarah Keener was born 1843.

6 v. Benjamin F. Keener was born 1844.

7 vi. Margaret Keener was born 1846.

8 vii. Lewis C. Keener was born 1848.

9 viii. Adaline Keener was born 1883.

10 ix. Felitia A. Keener was born 1884.
