The
Gathering of the Clan
 | August 2000 -
 | 4 of the Ontario Archdekins decided to travel to the US to meet the
Nebraska cousins they had been e-mailing during the previous year.
They expressed an interest in visiting Andrew County Missouri to see
where the rest of the American Archdekins had relocated over a century
ago. As a result, an informal get-together was held in St. Joseph,
Missouri. It was planned by Ron & Nancy Archdekin of Omaha,
Nebraska with assistance from many relatives in the St. Joseph and
Kansas City areas. |
 | The afternoon pot-luck meal was hosted by Ron's sister, Diane
Archdekin Gagnon. Approximately 70 people attended. |
 | A genealogy chart was posted and several people added updates to
the chart. Some of the local people brought family photographs
which were wonderful to look at. |
 | Despite the fact that this event was quickly put together, it was a
huge success. Many people stayed into the evening to visit.
It was agreed that we should meet again - next time in Canada where we
could visit the place our ancestors had immigrated to in the early
1800's. |
 | Somewhere during the planning stages of this first reunion the name
"The Gathering of the Clan" was added and has been used since. |
|
 | August 2002 -
 | Held in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada. It was planned by
Charlie, Pam, Rick and Nancy Archdekin in Ontario. |
 | Wasaga Beach is located on Georgian Bay which was a great place to
vacation. There was lots to do at the local amusement park, in
town and on the beach. Those who traveled from outside the area
soon realized that they should have allowed more days for their stay in
Wasaga Beach. |
 | An evening BBQ was hosted by the 4 planners for those who traveled
from the US. This was a great opportunity to visit with our hosts
and to get to know them a little better. |
 | The official Gathering of the Clan was held the following afternoon at
Spring Water Provincial Park. There was plenty of time to
socialize with cousins, take walks in the park, talk about genealogy,
view charts and pictures, and to share a pot-luck meal. |
 | A genealogy chart was again posted and resulted in more updates to the
tree. |
 | A small group elected to make a trip to Brampton Ontario the following
day. This is the area where our Archdekin ancestors settled in the
1820's. Rick and Pam Archdekin took the group to visit the sites
where our ancestors lived and were buried. Additional stops
included some of the Archdekin landmarks in Brampton. |
|
 | July 2005 -
 | Sadly, this reunion was cancelled.
