Notes  This is a rare edition of a chapbook where the leaves are printed on one side only,
although the pagination is continuous. It contains four-line verses, all ending with the line
"My Bible" and paraphrasing different passages from the Bible.
It was published between 1837 and 1844 by John Elder, who is also known
for printing a slip ballad called "Alice Grey".
The chapbook contains 8 wood-engraved illustrations which are hand-coloured in green and yellow.
It is in its original printed wrappers with wood engravings to both covers.

Lord Provost ELDER room at Univ. of Edinburgh:
"Portrait in ELDER Meeting room (Room 100) located
  on the ground floor of Old College (South Side, Administrative
  Offices entrance). It contains an oval table and can seat 16.
 There is a connecting door to the Lee Room."

          &c.
          Mezzotint, printed in colours with beautifully finished additional
hand colouring. Laid down on board.
          Earlom (R[ichard].), after Sir Henry Raeburn, RA.
          Fine condition, good margins, a little very light dust-soiling at
caption.
          Russell 12a.
          Implausibly inscribed at foot, in pencil: "Coloured by Raeburn
himself". Elder of Forneth (1737-1799), Lord Provost of Edinburgh,
 was, as a Baillie, one of the promoters of the rebuilding of
          Edinburgh University. The foundation stone was laid during his term as
Lord Provost, and he is shown with the plans of this by him.
          Platemark Size: 504 x 355mms.

2) An allegedly linked line is that of THOMAS ELDER 1737-1799 Lord
Provost of Edinburgh and Postmaster General of Scotland, former wine
merchant who married Elizabeth Man.
 They had one son WILLIAM ELDER and their eldest of 4 daughters,
Isabella, married the Principal of Edinburgh University, George
Husband Baird 1761-1840.
This line begins with William Elder Engineer in 17th century, then
Alexander Elder of Forres near Inverness, his son William Elder of
Loaning near Pitlochry b ca 1710 to 1780 at least,
father of Thomas above and of Charles 1749-1823.
 Charles was in the Royal Navy and taken prisoner by the Americans in   [Charles of Milnathort - Kinross-shire (2)]
1777 for 13 months with an address at Rhode Island.
 Later appointed to Lord Howe's flagship *The Eagle* and in action
against the French off Rhode Island in 1778..."
