Lost one daughter: Sarah E. Mr. Elder enlisted in the 39th Iowa Infantry,
and was with Sherman in his march to the sea.

The article says about his ancestor:
(Aaron's?).. G-grandfather [or gg-grandfather?] ELDER was born in Ireland about 1725,
and emigrated to America in 1750.  Although he claimed the
United States  as his home after settling in Pennsylvania,
he made several visits to his native land.
He had been a sailor and was able to work as such on the
 vessels across the ocean, and thus did not entirely break away
from his native place.  His first settlement was in the Path Valley,
 in Franklin Co PA, and he later moved to Center county and still
later to Spruce Creek, in Huntingdon county. "  -
