"William Stewart, the Immigrant, and his Descendants"
William Stewart was born in 1758 or 59, at "Stewart's
Lodge," County Carlow
Ireland and died April 1, 1834 in Marion County, (now Sequatchie
County) Tennessee.
He was married first to Elizabeth Guyton on May 24,
1788 in Baltimore, and they had 8 children...
[including Elizabeth Stewart who married William Rogers...
parents of Amanda Rogers).
After leaving Baltimore, he traveled down through Virginia....
Sometime in the spring of 1811 William Stewart, with his family,
traveled across the mountains to Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee,
where he made his final settlement. Here he qcquired considerable
land four miles southwest
of where Dunlap now stands....
He died April 1, 1834 at the age of seventy-five and was buried
beside his second wife
on a grassy hill overlooking the land he owned and loved.
Much of this land is still owned by three of his descendants who
live there.
The year 1961 will round out one hundred and fifty years of continuous
ownership by the Stewart family...."

"...numerous members of the Stewart family are buried in Chapel
Hill Cemetery,
Sequatchie County, Tennessee, where a memorial service is held the
third Sunday in May every year.
Usually, there is a large attendance of the descendants."
