In 1872 was assistant stenographer in the State Senate of New York; was a time local editor of the 'Bayonne Herald', Bergan Point, NY; was stenographer in various courts in Pennsylvania, and for the Schuylkill County Court for some years; was one of the reporters of the "Molly Maguire" trials; in 1883 was clerk of the Commissioner of Pensions, and was later the stenographer of Justice Miller of the Supreme Court. Graduated B.L. and M.L. from the University Law School of Washington; admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia, and later to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
