  He was a student in the common schools; was in Brookfield Academy and Cazenovia Seminar several terms, and made final preparation for college at E. Greenwich, RI; was two years at Wesleyan Univ., graduating at Union College, Schensctady, NY, in the class of 1854. While an academic student he entered the local ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church. After graduation, with his brother Albert I. York he established the Valley Female Institute, at Winchester, Virginia. On the breaking up of this school by the war he brought his family to Binghamton, NY; later he was Principal of Amenia Seminar. Removed to Vineland, NJ, where in various capacities he was connected with the educational interests of the city; he was teacher of languages, trustee, principal and superintendent, and country examiner of theachers. In 1889 he was appointed to a clerkship in Washington, DC.

Sidney married Elizabeth OSTERMAN, daughter of Christian OSTERMAN, on 2 Jul 1854. Elizabeth was born 25 Nov 1833.

307. Albert L. YORK (Ichabod , John , John , Thomas , James , James ) was born 31 Mar 1831 in Brookfield, Madison Co., New York. He died 16 Feb 1905 in Brookfield, Madison Co., New York.

  He was born in the old house on the hill, but in his early infancy the family removed to the home nearer Beaver Creek. He was educated at the Waterman Schoolhouse, the Brookfield Academy, and Cazenovia Seminary; graduated from Union College, under the presidency of President Eliphalet Nott; joined the Methodist Episcopal Church when about eleven years of age, and during his early college years, by authority of his home church in Brookfield, entered the local ministry. In 1854, with his brother Sidney, he established the Valley Female Institute, in Winchester, Va. He was Professor of Mathematics, Latin, and German. He closed his connection with the institute in 1858 and joined the Oneida Conference. Before he joined the Oneida Conference he married 2nd Kezia Lichtenthaler.
At the close of his pastorate at Manlius, Mr. York married 3rd Caroline Moore.
    In 1882 he went to Nebraska and California. From 1883 to 1886 he spent most of his time in Nebraska. His subsequent years were mostly spent in Brookfield, temporarily supplying the pulpits of the Baptist churches of Brookfield and No. Brookfield, with more or less pulpit service in the Methodist Church in Brookfield. In 1891-1892, under the direction of the Waterman School Association, he prepared a "history of the Waterman School District; Its Schools and Its Peoples," a typewritten volume of two hundered pages for the school district. In 1892 he commenced the preparation of a "History of the York Family in America." This was a typewritten volume illustrated with maps, plans and photographs. An abridgement of this volume prepared for his son has been placed at the disposal of the compilers of this work, and from it has been drawn most of the information relating to the York family.

Albert married (1) Ann E. ARNOLD, daughter of Fletcher ARNOLD, on 15 Dec 1852. Ann was born 28 Feb 1829.

Albert also married (2) Kezia LICHTENTHALER, daughter of Jacob LICHTENTHALER, on 7 Oct 1857 in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania. Kezia was born 14 May 1838. She died 20 Jan 1860 in Manlius, New York.

Albert also married (3) Caroline MOORE, daughter of Henry MOORE, on 8 Dec 1860 in Manlius, New York. Caroline was born 20 Nov 1834. She died 4 Nov 1903.

    Elias Williams Brown (234) was born in No. Stonington, Conn., Aug. 18, 1784. He married No. Stonington, Jan. 5, 1815 to Martha Miner, daughter of Elder Asher Miner and wife Lucy (Spalding) Miner. He was a cabinet maker, and is remembered as a man of commanding appearance and fine physique.

Asa married Abby P. PALMER on 26 Sep 1832 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Abby died 21 Jan 1849.

Thankful married Gilbert PUTNAM on 24 Jan 1819. Gilbert was born 1797.
