STERLING - Walter "Bunny Bab" Babcock, 76, of 574 Sterling Road, husband of Lillian (Main) Babcock, died Friday morning at his home.
Mr. Babcock was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Sterling, son of the late George and Mary (Belknap) Babcock. He was a lifelong Sterling resident.
He worked for the state of Conn. Dept. of Enviromental Protection at the Pachaug State Forest from 1945 to 1971.
Mr. Babcock was a member of the Oneco Volunteer Fire Company and chief for more than 12 years.
He was a selectman in the town of Sterling for more than 10 years.
Mr. Babcock was an avid baseball player and played for more than 10 years with the Twilight League on teams in Oneco, Sterling and Jewett City.
He married the former Lillian Main on Dec. 22, in Gales Ferry.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Peter Babcock of Sterling and Paul Babcock of W. Hampton, Mass.; two daughters, Sayra Poole of Harwinton and Nancy Babcock of Magnolia, Mass.; a brother Elmer Babcock of Oneco; four sisters, Mildred Barber of Wickford, RI, Mary Anderson of Brooklyn, Laura Griswold of Vernon and Hazel Grinswold of Ellington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchilden.

She was born in Ledyard, April 8, 1902, the daughter of Erastus and Lottie (Fish) Main.
She attended Ledyard elementary schools. On Dec 24, 1924, she was united in marriage to Lyman Garland in St. James Episcopal Rectory by the late Rev. H. M. Ockford.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Vantour of East Johnsbury, Vt. and Mrs. James (Elsie) Fowler of Norwich; a son, Lyman "Sparky" Garland Jr. of Norwich; three sisters, Miss Dora Main of Ledyard, Mrs. Henrietta Jennings of Norwich and Mrs. Peter (Lillian) Babcock of Sterling; five brothers, Elmer and Timothy, both of Ledyard, Alfred of Prfeston, Charles of Canterbury, and Walter Main of Preston; and twelve grandchildren.

NEW LONDON - Doris Anna Main, 81, of 913 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard, died yesterday at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.
Mrs. Main was born Sept. 5, 1909, in Westerly, RI. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheeler. She had lived in Ledyard for 52 years.
She worked part-time at Holdridge Nursery in Ledyard.
Mrs. Main married Timothy Main in Stonington in December of 1938.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Beverly Rogers of Norwich, Katherine Wiezbicki of Plainfield, Peggy Crouch of Springfield, MO.; a brother, Charles Wheeler of Preston; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a nephew and a niece. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Main; and a grandson Frederick Brellsford.

NEW LONDON - Elmer O. Main, 83, of 122 Montauk Ave., died Thursday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Ledyard March 7, 1906, the son of John Erastus and Lottie Fish Main. He married Mary Whipple Main in Ledyard April 14, 1935.
Mr. Main was retired from Electric Boat, where he was employed as a machinist. He was also a farmer, and a former member of the National Guard.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Rev. Richard G. Main of Dresden, Maine; four daughters, Mary Joyce Munsell of Raliegh, N.C., Dora Reece of Santa Susana, Calif., Carolyn Maslin of Huntington, Ind. and Emily D. Tull of Waukegan, Ill.; four brothers, Timothy of Ledyard, Charles of Jewett City, and Alfred and Walter Main, both of Norwich; three sisters, Dora Main of New London, Henrietta Jennings of Norwich and Lillian Babcock of Sterling; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Allyn Nelson Main - MIDDLETOWN - Allyn Nelson Main, 67, of 29 Silver St., died Saturday at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown.
Born July 24, 1907 in Ledyard, he was the son of Allen and Rose Rivers Main.
He married the former Florence Wheeler April 3, 1929, in Norwich Town. She died in December 1062.
He was an assistant herdsman in the dairy division of the
Auer Farm for many years. He ws later employed at the Connecticut Valleyh Hospital for over 10 years before retiring this year.
He was a member of the Connecticut State Employes Association and Charter 400 of that organization.
He was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Norwich Town.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Cecil Santana of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Evelyn Blair of Portland and Mrs. Mariano Bermudez of Middletown; two brothers Charles Main of Vermont and Harold Main of New Hampshire, five sisters, Mrs. Oliver Yound of South Windham, Mrs. William Fish of Gilman, Mrs. Angelo Perrona of Fitchville, Mrs. Chester Haughn of Somers and Mrs. Richard Elton of Fitchville; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesdayh at Gagers Funeral Home on 85 Sachem St., Norwich. The Rev. Robedrt Fell, pastor of United Congregational Church in Durham, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ledyard Center Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Mildred (Pierce) Avery Miner, 78, of 18 Stanton Ave., Norwich formerly of Ledyard, died Saturday at her home. She was the widow of Donald Avery and Leon Miner, and the sister of Clara Kenyon of Westerly.
Born in Ledyard, Sept. 4, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Stanton Main Pierce.
Mrs. Miner was employed in the housekeeping department of the Convalescent Center of Norwich, and was formerly employed as a bus driver with the Seaside Regional Center in Waterford and the Town of Ledyard Department of Education. She had also worked as a cook at the Dew Drop Inn Restaurant in North Stonington.
She was a member of the Ledyard Garange, the New London County Pomona Grange and the Ledyard Congregational Church.
In addition to her sister in Westerly, survivors include five sons. Warren Avery of Ledyard, Lawrence A. Avery of Norwich, Alvin Avery of Taftville, and Donald Avery and Charles Avery, both of New Hampshire; another niece, May Roberts of Sterling, Conn.; nine grandchilden and twenty great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours at the Church & Allen-Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

LEDYARD - Ruth E. Maynard, 70, of 17 River Drive, Gales Ferry died today at her home.
A native of Ledyard, she was born May 18, 1916, the daughter of Amos and Frances Spicer Main.
She was married to Franklin E. Maynard Oct. 14, 1938, in Ledyard.
Mr. Maynard was a cafeteria worker at the Gales Ferry School before her retirement.
She was a member of the Ledyard Nursing Board of 6 1/2 years and a volunteer for the Well-Child Conference Program. She was a former member of the Ledyard and Gales Ferry Schools Parent-Teacher Associations and was a former Den Mother of Cub Scouts. She was a 1935 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.
Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, Robert of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Raymond Maynard of Gales Ferry; a daughter, Cynthia Payne of Norwich; a brother, Raymond Main and a sister, Ethel Babcock, both of Gales Ferry and five grandchildren.

ADELLA H. BROUSSEAU - LEDYARD - Adella Henry Brousseau, 78, of 95 Gallup Hill Road, died yesterday at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospitals, New London.
He was born in Willington, Oct. 8, 1907, the son of the late Henry L. and Amelia (Lafleur) Brousseau.
Mr. Brousseau was married to Rachel Pierce, Dec. 12, 1927. She survives him.
He was retired in 1973 from Electric Boat, Groton, having worked in the testing department.
Suvivors include his wife; three sons, Harry Brousseau of Gales Ferry, Wallace Brousseau of Ledyard, and Thomas Brousseau of Boomsville, N.Y.; two daughters, Emma Alberhamson of Preston and Norma Allen of Gales Ferry; one brother, Clement Brousseau of Woodyhill, R.I.; one sister, Eva Burton of Ledyard; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
