COLUMBUS MAN KILLED FOUR OTHERS HURT, by Joseph B. Gill.
A 35-year-old Columbus man is dead and four others injured in three traffic accidents Wednesday.
Bruce M. Marr of Marr Lane died instantly in the 10:37 p.m. Wednesday accident on Indiana 9 at Road 525E, Jerald R. Weddle, 46, of Westport, the other driver, and his son, Chris Weddle, the other driver, and his son, Chris Weddle, 14, received only minor injuries.
. . . In the fatal accident, Marr's westbound 1972 Datsun 240Z passed the Weddle vehicle at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses, and then turned north onto Road 525E, about 3/4 of a mile from Marr's home.
Marr's vehicle made a U-turn on that road, and then pulled back onto Indiana 9 into the path of Weddle's westbound pickup truck.
Weddle's truck struck Marr's car in the driver's door, pinning Marr inside.
Although he was wearing his seat belt, Marr died instantly from a crushed chest, said Bartholomew County Coroner Larry S. Fisher.
Fisher said a blood alcohol test performed on Marr showed a 0.19 percent content. In Indiana, drivers are considered legally intoxicated with a BAC of 0.10 percent of higher.
The Weddles were taken to Bartholomew County Hospital and released after emergency room treatment.
Sheriff's Deputy T. A. Smith is investigating.
Funeral arrangements for Marr are incomplete by Myers Funeral Service at their Hathaway-Myers Chapel.
Wednesday's fatality is the 16th this year in Bartholomew County. There were twelve for all of 1987.
