    Herbert F. Bennett enlisted from Providence, Sept. 30, 1861, to serve three years, and was mustered into the United States service on the same day and place, as a Private of Captain George E. Randolph's Battery E. 1st Regt. R. I. Vol. Light Artillery, Col. Charles H. Tompkins commanding. Battery E. was enlisted in Providence, and had its first encampment at Camp Green. During his connection with the battery was engaged in the following battles; Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fairroaks, Charles City, Cross Roads, Malvern Hill, Second Battle of Bull Run, Chantilly, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Glendale, Willderness, and an number of minor engagements and skirmishes. Re-enlisted at Brandy Station, Virginia, Feb. 3, 1863; was mustered into the United States service, Feb. 8, 1864, as 2nd Lieutenant, assigned to Co. L, 14th Regt. R. I. Heavy Artillery, and stationed at Fort Banks, La. Discharged at Providence, Oct. 2, 1864, by reason of close of war; was Commander of Babbitt Post No. 15, G.A.R., from 1887 to 1890; held the positions of Junior and Senior Vice-Commander of the Department of R. I. G. A. R. Dec. 2, 1903, was elected a member of the Commandery of the State of Mass. Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States.
    Mr. Bennett was elected Representative to the General Assembly from the town of Bristol, RI, in 1881 and 1882. Apr. 8, 1882, was elected Town Clerk, and by subsequent re-elections have served the town in that capacity to the present time, 1906.

North Stonington Man Dies of Heart Attack
    Robert E. Taylor, aged 72 years, a North Stonington carpenter, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday afternoon in that village. He was stricken with a mild attack earlier in the week, but had seemed to be recovering when he was fatally seized Friday afternoon.
    Born in Stonington on March 17, 1867, he was the son of Charles W. and Louise B. (Gavitt) Taylor. For many years he worked as a carpenter in this section.
    Besides his wife, Mary (Flaherty) Taylor, he is survived by three sons, Oscar E., Dewey M. and Charles W. Taylor, all of North Stonington; four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Collins, Mrs. James Whiting, Mrs. Denison Boyle and Miss Ethna Taylor, all of North Stonington; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Vredenburg of Westerly; 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at the Avery Funeral Home, 46 Granite Street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, followed by internment at River Bend Cemetery.

Robert married Mary A. FLAHERTY on 7 Sep 1890 in No Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Mary was born 1 Sep 1874 in Liverpool, England. She died 3 Jul 1948 in Pawcatuck, New London Co., Connecticut and was buried in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island.

Mrs. Mary F. Taylor Dies At William Street Home
    The death of Mrs. Mary Flaherty Taylor, 73, widow of Robert E. Taylor occurred suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Rembo, 37 William Street, yesterday morning.
    Born in Liverpool, England, September 1, 1874, the daughter of Walter and Mary Ann Flaherty, Mrs. Taylor has lived in North Stonington for many years.
    Besides Mrs. Rembo she leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Dennison Royle, Mrs. Hattie Collins, Mrs. Harry Seymour, two sons, Oscar E. Taylor and Charles W. Taylor, all of North Stonington, 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers in England, two sisters in Cincinnati, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be at the Avery Funeral Home, 46 Granite Street, at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Inor S. Partington officiating, interment will be in the River Bend Cemetery.

SERVICES HELD FOR CHARLES H. GAVITT
    Funeral of services for Charles H. Gavitt were held Friday afternoon from the home of his daughter Mrs. John Banker, in the Wequetequock section of Stonington. He was 63 years of age and had been a life long resident of the town.
    Rev. H. Campbell Eatough, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Westerly, officiated and also conducted the service in Stonington Cementery. The bearers were: Fred Chase, Kenneth Lattimore, George Lee, William Scott, Malcolm Stinson and Howard Taylor.

Charles married Miss. Miss was born 1975. She died 3 Nov 1952.
