Martha Adelaide Taylor was deaf and mute. She was raped by a neighboring married farmer (tradition says a Mr. Brown). She gave birth to Mary Ann when she was 15 years old. Her fathers second wife raised Mary Ann and Adelaide went on to marry another mute she had met at the school for the deaf.

Funeral from the Gavitt Funeral Home, Westerly, Monday, March 6, at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Internment in River Bend Cemetery.

FUNERAL SERVICE HELD FOR MRS. GEORGE GAVITT
Funeral service for Mrs. George H. Gavitt, who died Thursday at her home on Williams Street at the age of 88 years, were held yesterday afternoon at the Gavitt Funeral Home, Rev. Arnt L. Schoning, paster of the Broad Street Christian Church officiating.
The bearers were Russell Gavitt, Howard Taylor, Ralph Northup and Halsey Burdick. Internment took place in River Bend Cemetery.
