According to the "Britton Ancestry" by Edward E. Britton, William was the son of James and Jane Britton of Charlestown, Mass. Few other facts have been ascertained about him. He was in Maine as early as 1674, when on the 6th of June he witnessed a deed at Saco (York Co. Deeds, ii, folio 174).

BRIAN PENDLETON AND HIS DESCENDANTS, 1599-1910, Compiled by Everett Hall Pendleton, Privatley Printed MCMX, found in the DAR Library, Washington, DC. Page 37, 46 & 47.
A tradition among her descendants says that she was sixty years old when she died.
Eleazer Brown and his wife made their home in Westerly and later in Stonington, in the part of that township which was afterward set off to form North Stonington. In the division of their father's property, Ann received his house as appears in the agreement of the heirs: pg. 46.
After the deaths of Ann and her husband, her surviving children deeded to Edmund and Joseph Pendleton of Westerly, for ten pounds all their rights in the estate of "our grandfather, James Pendleton late of Westerly, and of 'Briant' Pendleton". This deed was signed 30 Jul 1734, by Jonathan Brown, "Elezer" Brown, Thomas Main and Ann, his wife, Patience Brown, James Pendleton and Abigail his wife, and Wait Palmer and Mary, his wife (Rockingham Co., NH Deeds, xx, 227.)

  G. and B. Record of New London: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673.
History of Stonington: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673.

Since James Pendleton was in Portsmouth from 1665 to 1670, Ann possibly was
born there, according to this information, but gravestone, erected many
years after her death, says she was born six years later in Westerly, Rhode
Island. Both say she died at age 60.

Tombstone reads:
Ann / Wife of / Eleazer Brown / & Daughter of / Capt. James Pendleton / Born in Westerly RI / 1673 Died aged / 60 years

An AF record says she died Nov. 30, 1734. New England Marriages Prior
to 1700 says she was born in 1667. Back to square one.

"Early New England Pendletons" says Ann's mother was from Sudbury, Mass.
Ann could have gone to her parents' home for births. Births of some of her
children were recorded in both Sudbury and Portsmouth.

Colonial Wars: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673, died before 1732. Married Eleazer Brown 18 Oct. 1693.

Major Brian Pendleton left 700 acres of Westerly, Rhode Island, land in trust to his son James, which was to be divided among James' children by his second wife. Each was to receive one share, except for the oldest son, who would receive two shares. An instrument dated April 11, 1711, named Ann's share, one of seven. Typically, it is listed in her husband's name. "...Elizer brown hath  ye third lott & ye house that was Capt. Pendletons stands on itt ye bounds thereof is in ye surveigh & ye s'd Elezer brown had s'd lott by a Joynt agreement of the heirs of Capt. James Pendleton & payed sertaine sumes of money therefore unto Nicholas Cottrill William walker as was inserted in Capt. James Pendletons will & for a confirmation of s'd lott with all ye housing orchards fencings pausters woods timber & all other priveleges & apurtenances whatsoever belonging to s'd lott or hereafter shall belong thereunto" (are, in effect, assigned by the above Cottrill and Walker, as well as by Edmund and Caleb Pendleton) "to ye s'd Elezer brown his heirs Executs administrators &
assigns to have & to hold in severallity forever to use poses and injoy as his owne proper Estate forever..." From Brown Genealogy, Vol. II.
No wonder Ann and Eleazer lived in Westerly as well as Stonington.

Four generations later, Caroline M. Wood Brown, wife of German S. Brown, bought Broome County property in her own name from German's brother. The lot of the wife had improved, if not the size of the lott.

RIGR: Called Ann Brown in her father's will.

He died 30 Nov 1734 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut and was buried in Brown Cemetery, No. Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut.

THE BROWN GENEALOGY, by Cyrus Henry Brown, pages 10, 12.
Four of the children of Thomas Browne remained in MA, while three of them came to Stonington, CT, before 1688. They purchased and received large tracts of land most of which was located in the present town of North Stonington, bounded as follows: the western boundary was nearly all on Ossekonk Swamp, the northern bounds of which extended from the Ossekonk brook on the west on Shunnock River on the east, joining on the north the lands of the late Stephen Avery and lands of the Maine family, to the lands of the Randall family; eaterly on the Randall land to the Richardson's possessions; on the south by the Palmer family land and Miner territory; and on the west by the Wheeler family land up to the said Ossekonk Swamp.
Eleazer Brown, b. Lynn MA, Aug 5, 1670; d. Stonington CT, now North Stonington, Nov 30, 1734. m. Ann Pendleton, Oct. 18, 1693.
His house stood in the eastern part of the lands purchased by the Brown brothers, about twenty-five rods south of the Brown Cemetery, and north of the Miner Meeting-house. Headstones were erected to their graves by the late Daniel Brown (386). Probably these were the first interments in these grounds. He was a farmer and stock-raiser.

Eleazer and his older brothers, Thomas and John, sold their posssessions

burial site is today in North Stonington. Stonington is a seaport area.

BRIAN PENDLETON AND HIS DESCENDANTS, 1599-1910, Compiled by Everett Hall Pendleton, Privatley Printed MCMX, found in the DAR Library, Washington, DC. Page 1-77.
Edmund was taken to Westerly, RI, with the rest of his father's family when about seven years of age and made that town his home until his death.
On the 18th of April, 1674, he was baptized at the First Congregational Church of Stonington, Conn.
On the 28th of July 1700, Edmund Pendleton and Mary, his wife, were admitted to membership in the First Church of Stonington (Church Records).
On the 30th of April, 1750, inventory of his estate was presented to the town council for probate. It amounted to 1375 pounds and included wearing apparel...etc.
The descendants of Edmund Pendleton, Sr., are not numerous, as many of them remained unmarried, and of those who did marry few had large families. The marriage of Edmund does not appear to be of record, but we have his wife's first name, Mary, from the Stonington Church records.
His children, as shown in the administration on his estate and in the baptismal records of the Stonington Churches are in uncertain order.

Edmund married Mary. Mary died before 1712 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island.

As she was forty-eight years old and still single when she signed receipt for her share of her father's estate in 1750, she probably died unmarried.

Dorothy married John JAMISON, son of William JAMISON and Sarah PRICE, on 20 Dec 1748 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island.

On the 2nd of Nov 1735, Edmund Pendleton, Daniel Pendleton, "Dorotha" Pendleton, and Rebecca Pendleton owned covenant to the Second Church of Stonington, and were baptized at Westerly 23rd of Nov. following, Edmund's name appearing this time as Edmundk, Junr. As no reference in this Daniel Pendleton is made in the settlement of his father's estate he evidently died prior to 1750 without leaving a family.

Is recorded in the Westerly Land Evidence.
He was active in town affairs and repeatedly held office between 1698 and 1720, becoming Town Councilman in the latter year. Was admitted to the church at Stonington, 18 Feby., 1693, and was baptized with his two oldest children the following 23rd of July, 1693. (Rec. First Cong.     She probably died young as she is not mentioned in her father's will, and in the will of her grandfather, James-2 Pendleton. her sister, Elixabeth, is named as Caleb's second daughter, which could not have been so considered if Hannah were living and the children were baptized in the order of their birth as is presumable.

BRIAN PENDLETON AND HIS DESCENDANTS, 1599-1910, Compiled by Everett Hall Pendleton, Privatley Printed MCMX, found in the DAR Library, Washington, DC. Page 1-77.
Eleanor was admitted to the Stonington church, 24th Oct 1702, and made "public confession" on the 14th of June 1706. (Church Rec.).
The date of her marriage is not of recorfd but is must have occured between the 14th April 1709, when she was named as Eleanor Pendleton in her father's deed of that date, and the 6th of June 1710, when with her husband William Walker, she signed an agreement concerning the division of Capt. James Pendleton's farm (W.E.E., ii, 90).
William Walker did not long survive his wife, as on the 13th of April, 1713, the Town Council of Westerly appointed Nicholas Cottrell, Jr., administrator of the estate of William Walker, deceased, and ordered Cottrell to pay to "widow Hannah Pendleton, grandmother of William Walker's only child Sarah, the some of 7 pounds, 10s, annually until said child was seven years old, provided the grandmother does not refuse to take the child". In this event Cottrell was directed to hire some one else to take the child, or else do it himself. It is quite evident from this that Eleanor had died before her husband.

Eleanor married William WALKER about 1709/1710 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island. William died before 1713.

BRIAN PENDLETON AND HIS DESCENDANTS, 1599-1910, Compiled by Everett Hall Pendleton, Privatley Printed MCMX, found in the DAR Library, Washington, DC. Page 1-77.
He was old enough to witness a deed made by his uncle James Pendleton on the 13th of June 1681 (York Deeds, III, folio 93). On the 25th of May, 1671, Brian Pendleton executed a trust deed of Joshua Moody and Richard Martin "For the Intyre affection that I beare my Grandson (now my adopted Sun) Pendleton Fletcher (I) have granted unto him all my necke of Land on which I now lyue, as far as the Mill, together with two islands, etc." (York Deeds, II, folio 97).
Pendleton Fletcher was constable of Saco in 1681, and selectman in 1685. In 1693 he was Lieutenant of a company of soldiers stationed at a strong stone fort built on the river bank at Saco Falls. The Journal of John Pike notes that on the 7th of August 1607, "Pembleton" Fletcher with his two sons w4ere taken by the Indians, and three soldiers of Saco fort were slain as they were leaving Cow Island. One of the sons was recaptured with the slaughter of three or four of the savages (NH His. Soc. Col. Vol. III, p. 49). Pendleton Fletcher died in captivity, probably at Quebec, about 1698, and his widow administered his estate in 1700.
He and his wife Sarah Hill had seven children, born before 1690 (Savage). One of his sons, Pendleton-4, Jr., was captured four times by the Indians. He was a prominent citizen of Biddeford, Me., where he was a Selectman and Deputy to the General Court.
