ECCLESTON FAMILY REUNION AT GLASCO
Sixty Were Present Including a Number from Here.
    The descendants of the late Avery N. Eccleston and wife, Sally B. Ray, of North Stonington, held their ninth annual reunion with Mr. and Mrs. Nathan W. Eccleston at Glasgo, Tuesday.
    Sixty were present, coming from Boston, Hartford, Willimantic, Jewett City, Norwich, Yantle, Bean Hill, Niantic, Mystic, Stonington, North Stonington and other places.
    Death has entered th circle the past year and taken a daughter, Mrs. Oliver B. Miller, the eldest of the nine children who lived to grow up. Only three of the children are now living. Nathan W. Eccleston of Glasgo, with whom the reunion was held, John D. of Jewett City and Herman Clinton of North Stonington, all of whom with their wives were in attendance, the rest of the number being composed of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their families.
    The day was spent in happy manner. The dinner took the form of a family picnic and the good things were packed on the table until it fairly groaned under the weight. The chicken and baked beans, which the host and hostess had prepared was a dish to be remembered. An abundance of candy and watermelon was furnished by two who stood treat for the crowd.
    Games were played by the young people and songs, both sacred and sentimental, were sung. Three cheers and a vote of thanks were given Mr. and Mrs. Eccleston with an unanimous vote to meet at the same place next year the last Tuesday in August, providing God is willing.
    At most reunions a literary programme is prepared for the occasion, but theis family meets for the express purpose of having a day to visit with each other and there is no time for anything of that kind, judging by the busy hum of voices heard on all sides, and the swiftly passing hours.

    The Ecclestone family reunion was held Tuesday at the home of Nathan W. Ecclestone in Glasgo, where it has been the custom to meet annually for several years. The ninety present enjoyed the reunion to the utmost. They came from Nashua, N. ., Charlestown, Mass., South Windsor, North Windham, Yantic, Norwich, Mystic, North Stonington, Jewett City, Niantic, R.I., Stonington, East Great Plain, Ludlow, VT., and Griswold.

Avery married Sally Burton RAY, daughter of Jabesh RAY and Hannah YORK, on 24 Dec 1828 in No. Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Sally was born 19 Jun 1807 in Griswold, New London Co., Connecticut. In North Stonington, Conn, Aug. 25th, 1877. Captain Oliver S. Ecclestone, age 64 years.
  In the death of Capt. Oliver Eccleston, our town has lost one of its most esteemed citizens, although his death was sudden, his illness was long and painful. He was one of the first members of the Third Baptist Church in this town, and remained a member until his death. He was a friend to all, and was respected by all who knew him. His remains were interred in the Yankee cemetery at Norwich.

    1877 Capt. Oliver Ecclestone died Aug. 25, 1877 at North Stonington, CT age 64 yrs. He was a member of the Third Baptist Church. Buried at Yantic Cemetery in Norwich, CT.

    Ichabod-2A Eccleston of Stonington and Samuel Park of Groton to Ichabod-4 Eccleston, the grantee is described as Ichabod-4 Eccleston of Groton, a minor under 21, son of Ichabod-3, late of North Stonington, which deceased was known by his trade name as Taylor-3 and he was the son of Joseph-2E Eccleston, which Ichabod-4 the grantee was born of the wife of said Ichabod-3, Thankful, which Thankful before her intermarriage with said deceased, Thankful Park of Groton. -- Land abutted on the west on the highway leading to and from the sawmill belonging to John Baldwin; on the north abutts on land of Benedict-2B Eccleston; and on the east abutts on land of Joseph-2E Eccleston, and on the south abutts on land of Ichabod-2A Eccleston, one of these grantors, containing about 40 acres, more or less.
    Ichabod-1 died before 1784 leaving Ichabod-2A, Benedict-2B, David-2C, Winlock-2D and Joseph-2E.
   Joseph-2E had a son Ichabod-3 who married Thankful Park, Ichabod-3 was also known as Ichabod Taylor. Ichabod-3 and Thankful had a son Ichabod-4 of Groton, a minor under 21.

    Will of Joseph Eccleston is in North Stonington probate R-1, pages 57 and 58, dated Mar. 21, 1828, witnessed by Alexander Stewart, Hiram Herrick and Alexander Stewart, Jr.
    8 -- my will is that son Caleb to pay daughterThankful Law $8.00 and that said Caleb pay to grandson, Ichabod P. Eccleston $5.00.

[For lack of a place to put this family, I have put these children under Ichabod Park Eccleston because in 1900 Census I find Ichabod's son, Siles Curtis Eccleston and Noyes Asher Eccleston living in the same house, both as head of a family. Why would they be living in the same house if they weren't family? Until some evidence comes up to show me different. Also Noyes Asher is buried in the Eccleston Cemetery.]
