GEER FAMILY ASSOCIATION NEWSLATTER, VOL. 12, #2 SPRING 1995, page 34.
Ruth Geer (ID#55-1) married Ichabod Eccleston (Jr.) of Stonington 22 Dec 1787 (Preston VR 6:36); the marriage was not by any minister but was conducted by J.P. Mott.
The 1790 census of New London County (115:1), clearly in the same town. shows enumerations for
Ichabod Egelston (Jr.), 2 males over 16 & one female.
Ichabod Egleston, 1 male over 16, 2 under 16, and 2 females.
By 1800 one of these has disappeared-& two remain one in Stonington (688:5) age 45+, with 2 males under 10 and one 10-15.
I believe this last is the family of Ichabod and Ruth, heavely weighted with females.
North Stonington Land Records 1:144
Ichabod Eccleston of North Stonington and Samuel Park of Groton to Ichabod Eccleston of Groton, a minor under 21, son of Ichabod Eccleston, tailor of North Stonington, deceased and grandson of Joseph Eccleston of North Stonington, the grantee's mother being Thankful, born Thankful Park, of Groton, for $200, quick-claim interest in 400 acres in North Stonington abutting land of Benedict, Joseph and Ichabod Eccleston, and in 18 acres in Preston, the two lots having been conveyed to them by David Eccleston 6 Nov 1800 (see Stonington L.R. defectively indexed, for this conveyance) 9 Jan 1810, ackn. same, rec. 20 Feb 1810.
It appears that Ichabod Eccleston the grantor was a relative on the grantee's father's side and Samuel Park a relative on the grantee's mother's side. With some of these names and relationships in mind, five Ichabod Eccleston estates and one Benedict Eccleston estate from Stonington Probate District may now be abstracted, with the sole estate of Benedick or Benedict Eccleston being a kind of pivot around which all the others are seen to revolve, and this particularly useful in absence of any secondary compilation of this family I have found. Since another daughter of Stephen Geer is said to have married William Eccleston, and since it appears to be another case of two sisters marrying two brothers, the estate of William Eccleston will also be abstracted, though in his case the existance of birth records for his nine children makes it less necessary.
