LITTLE COMPTON FAMILIES, page 237.
    Residence: Newport and Dartmouth.
Married 2nd in 1731 Martha (Spooner) Wing, of Rochester, MA, widow of John Wing.
He was granted 5,000 acres of land in East Greenwich, RI with many other settlers, but he never settled there. He moved to Dartmouth, where he sold 19 Aug. 1698 to Nathaniel Potter, Sr. of Dartmouth, 50 acres for 15 pounds.

THE AMERICAN GENEALOGIST, ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS TO AUSTIN'S GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF RHODE ISLAND, Vol. 65, No. 3, July 1990, page 148. Two Jonathan Davols of Dartmouth, Mass. Contributed by Leo H. Garman, C.G., 449 Parkview Ave., Elmhurst, IL 60126.
In his Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island (Albany, NY., 1887, p. 287) John Osborne Austin identifies the wife of Jonathan Davol Jr. of Dartmouth, Mass, as Hannah, and mentions that she was named executrix in his will, which was dated 8 Aug 1709 and proven on 7 Sept. 1709. This is not correct. The wife whom Jonathan "Devel" of Dartmouth named in his will was "Marah," a phonetic spelling for the local pronunciation of Mary (Bristol Co. Mass. PR 2:263). While she is also named Marah on the bond and inventory, she herself signed the bond as Mary on 7 Sept. 1709. It is possible that Austin misread Marah as Hanah (or Hannah).
On the previous page (286) of the reprint of Austin's Dictionary, there is a printed marginal addition to the text stating that Hannah, the wife of Jonathan Davol (father of Jonathan in the above paragraph), was the Hannah Audley (or Odlin) born in 1643, daughter of John and Margaret Audley of Boston. This too is not correct. Hannah (or Anna) Odlin, daughter of John and Margaret, was in fact married to Jeremiah Bumstead by 1664, when John and Margaret deeded land to the Bumsteads "for love and affection of my son Jeremiah Bumstead" (Suffolk Co., MA, LR 21:230). Ruth Gray, in her article "Sarah, Mother of Jeremiah Bumstead" (NEHGR 140 (1986):312), sets forth facts indicating that Anna Bumstead died sometime between 1670 and 1674, after bearing Bumstead children until 1670, thereby eliminating the possibilty that she married first Bumstead, then Davol. Barring divorce, she could not have married Davol, the Bumstead (following Davol's death), inasmuch as, by Austin's own account, Jonathan Davol Sr. was signing deeds as late as 1698.

883. Hannah Audley ADLEY was christened 27 Jul 1643 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. She died 1709 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. [Parents]

THE BROWN GENEALOGY, by Cyrus Henry Brown, pages 10, 12.
Four of the children of Thomas Browne remained in MA, while three of them came to Stonington, CT, before 1688. They purchased and received large tracts of land most of which was located in the present town of North Stonington, bounded as follows: the western boundary was nearly all on Ossekonk Swamp, the northern bounds of which extended from the Ossekonk brook on the west on Shunnock River on the east, joining on the north the lands of the late Stephen Avery and lands of the Maine family, to the lands of the Randall family; eaterly on the Randall land to the Richardson's possessions; on the south by the Palmer family land and Miner territory; and on the west by the Wheeler family land up to the said Ossekonk Swamp.
Eleazer Brown, b. Lynn MA, Aug 5, 1670; d. Stonington CT, now North Stonington, Nov 30, 1734. m. Ann Pendleton, Oct. 18, 1693.
His house stood in the eastern part of the lands purchased by the Brown brothers, about twenty-five rods south of the Brown Cemetery, and north of the Miner Meeting-house. Headstones were erected to their graves by the late Daniel Brown (386). Probably these were the first interments in these grounds. He was a farmer and stock-raiser.

Wheeler & IGI say Eleazer I was born Aug. 4, 1670. Wheeler in another place
says Aug. 5. Brown Genealogy, Vols. I and II, says Aug. 4.
Another source says Aug. 15. Brown lists the marriage and death dates and
place of birth. Wheeler confirms the Aug. 4 death date. Bible records copied
from older records (Found on Film 862,766, Vol. 10, Page 9), confirm the
marriage and death dates. Am. Marriage Records confirm marriage date.

Gravestone, apparently erected well after his death, reads:
  Eleazer
  Son of
  Thomas Brown
  of Lynn, Mass.
  Born Aug. 5, 1670
  Died Nov. 30, 1734

Eleazer and his older brothers, Thomas and John, sold their posssessions
in Reading, MA, and came to Connecticut "at maturity" sometime after 1677. They
purchased adjacent farms near Browne's Mountain in what is now North
Stonington. Their cattle marks were recorded in May 1688. Eleazer was listed in
B.G. as "engaged in farming and stock-raising." He resided in Westerly, Rhode
Island, as well as Stonington. His wife inherited property in Westerly,
although it was deeded in his name.
Stonington vitals, film 1,309,871, Item 2 (original records): "The marks
Belonging to ye house of Eleazer Brown for Cattle swine & sheep etc is a Cutt
in ye near side of ye Right Ears and a Crop of the Top of yet Left Ears.
Entered April ye 20th 1704."

Thomas and John were mentioned in their father's will, along with Joseph,
Daniel, daughter Norwood and Ebenezer (executor) but not Eleazer or other
siblings.
The area where Eleazer and his brothers lived was called Stonington before
1807. In 1807, that inland area became known as North Stonington, hence the
burial site is today in North Stonington. Stonington is a seaport area.

A tradition among her descendants says that she was sixty years old when she died.
Eleazer Brown and his wife made their home in Westerly and later in Stonington, in the part of that township which was afterward set off to form North Stonington. In the division of their father's property, Ann received his house as appears in the agreement of the heirs: pg. 46.
After the deaths of Ann and her husband, her surviving children deeded to Edmund and Joseph Pendleton of Westerly, for ten pounds all their rights in the estate of "our grandfather, James Pendleton late of Westerly, and of 'Briant' Pendleton". This deed was signed 30 Jul 1734, by Jonathan Brown, "Elezer" Brown, Thomas Main and Ann, his wife, Patience Brown, James Pendleton and Abigail his wife, and Wait Palmer and Mary, his wife (Rockingham Co., NH Deeds, xx, 227.)

  G. and B. Record of New London: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673.
History of Stonington: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673.

Since James Pendleton was in Portsmouth from 1665 to 1670, Ann possibly was
born there, according to this information, but gravestone, erected many
years after her death, says she was born six years later in Westerly, Rhode
Island. Both say she died at age 60.

Tombstone reads:
Ann / Wife of / Eleazer Brown / & Daughter of / Capt. James Pendleton / Born in Westerly RI / 1673 Died aged / 60 years

An AF record says she died Nov. 30, 1734. New England Marriages Prior
to 1700 says she was born in 1667. Back to square one.

"Early New England Pendletons" says Ann's mother was from Sudbury, Mass.
Ann could have gone to her parents' home for births. Births of some of her
children were recorded in both Sudbury and Portsmouth.

Colonial Wars: Ann Pendleton, born 12 Nov. 1673, died before 1732. Married Eleazer Brown 18 Oct. 1693.

Major Brian Pendleton left 700 acres of Westerly, Rhode Island, land in trust to his son James, which was to be divided among James' children by his second wife. Each was to receive one share, except for the oldest son, who would receive two shares. An instrument dated April 11, 1711, named Ann's share, one of seven. Typically, it is listed in her husband's name. "...Elizer brown hath  ye third lott & ye house that was Capt. Pendletons stands on itt ye bounds thereof is in ye surveigh & ye s'd Elezer brown had s'd lott by a Joynt agreement of the heirs of Capt. James Pendleton & payed sertaine sumes of money therefore unto Nicholas Cottrill William walker as was inserted in Capt. James Pendletons will & for a confirmation of s'd lott with all ye housing orchards fencings pausters woods timber & all other priveleges & apurtenances whatsoever belonging to s'd lott or hereafter shall belong thereunto" (are, in effect, assigned by the above Cottrill and Walker, as well as by Edmund and Caleb Pendleton) "to ye s'd Elezer brown his heirs Executs administrators &
assigns to have & to hold in severallity forever to use poses and injoy as his owne proper Estate forever..." From Brown Genealogy, Vol. II.
No wonder Ann and Eleazer lived in Westerly as well as Stonington.

Four generations later, Caroline M. Wood Brown, wife of German S. Brown, bought Broome County property in her own name from German's brother. The lot of the wife had improved, if not the size of the lott.

RIGR: Called Ann Brown in her father's will.

THE HISTORY OF STONINGTON CT, by Wheeler, page 546.
John lived with his father in Westerly, on land purchased of Thomas Bell of Stonington, until he reached manhood, when he came to Stonington and bought large tracts of land, which was intersected by the society line, that divided the town of Stonington into two religious societies in 1721. Mr. Randall was a farmer by occupation, and as such reduced his land grants to cultivation, which he industriously and successfully imporved during the remainder of his life.

GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF RHODE ISLAND, by John Asborne Austin, pp. 157-8. The Genealogical Publishing Company, 1978.
The Randall land was about four miles northeast of Stonington Borough, known as Angwilla and considered the finest land of the town. These lands join on the north the lands of Thomas Brown, and have been in the Randall name as late as 1875. Elias Miner and his sons, now in 1906, own most of these farms. The Randall families were highly respected and progressive, ranking high in moral character, and prominent citizens of the town.

He was a soldier in King Philip's War of 1675/6. In the last year of the war he, under Capt. George Denison and others, were pursuing the remnant of King Philip's army, a portion of whom were under the command of Canonchet, the last of the Royal Narragansett Sachems, who were encamped on the banks of the Pawcatuck River, in Rhode Island, when Denison and his men attacked them suddenly. Most of them feld, leaving the Sachem alson, and as soon as he relized his plight he sought safety in flight, and when he saw his pursuers gaining on him he threw off his blanket, then his silver-laced coat and belt of peage, and ran with all possible speed, but as he crossed the river he fell and wet his gun and was soon overtaken by Robert Stanton, then not 25 years of age, but he would not recognize his aughtority nor reply to his questions, because of his youth, but when the officers in charge came up he still refused to answer or to sign a treaty of peace, and when he was told that he would be shot if he did not, he replied, "he like it well and should die before his heart had grown soft or he had said anything unworthy of himself." and so he was shot near Anguilla, in Stonington.

VITAL RECORDS OF NEW LONDON, NEW LONDON CO., CONN.
John Avery ye son of James & Joanna Avery was marryed unto Abigail ye daughterr of Samuel Chesebrough ye 29th of November 1675.

THE GROTON AVERY CLAN, Vol. I, by Elroy McKendree Avery and Catherine Hitchcock (Tilden) Avery, Cleveland, 1912. Found in the DAR Library, Washington DC. Pages 78, 109 through 112.
We are not able to give the date of his death, but he deeded land to his son Nathaniel, April 17, 1724.
John-3 Avery was an extensive land owner, holding, in addition to the place upon which he lived, land in several other towns. February 16, 1688, Capt. James-2 Avery, "out of love," gave to his son, John-3, the land that he had bought of Thomas Hungerford at the head of "poqeuannock plaine," also land that was originally Joacb Waterhouse's also a parcel of meadow on a brook commonly called Stony Brook: and "all that meadow each side that I bought of William Meader." (New London Deads.)
John-3 became a freeman of New London, May 12, 1681. His name appears on the patent for New London, Oct. 14, 1704. In the list of the inhabitants of Groton in 1708 and 1712 are found the names of Capt. John-3 Avery and his son, John Avery.
Capt. John-3 was townsman of Groton, 1706. He was chosen with his brother, James, member of a committee to lay out 100 acres of land to Mr. Woodbridge, July 15, 1708. He was a member of the church of Groton, Nov. 22, 1727, as his wife is not mentioned, it probable that she was then dead.
The general court record, May 13, 1697, we learn that "John Aurey (was) appointed Captian of the train band at New London on the east side of the riuer." (Conn. Col. Rec., 4:212.)
