     Louis H. Hulick was born in Indiana in 1845, where he grew to manhood and received his early educational training. In the State of Iowa he was joined in the bands of matrimony to Miss Margaret A. Gable, a native of Washington county that state. In 1864 they crossed the plains with ox teams, completing the perilous and arduous journey in good time. After the close of this unique pilgrimage they came to a halt in the Grande Ronde valley and there took up the related occupations of stock raising and farming, prosecuting the same with vigor that brought success. They removed to Big Creek in Baker county, where Mr. Hulick died, and then later went to the lower Powder river valley and settled on a quarter section, obtaining title thereto by purchase, and for twenty years this place has been the family home. In December, 1870, Mr. Hulick, after a faithful life of industry and enterprise, was called to depart from the scenes of this earth and enter upon the realities of another world. He left to mourn his sad demise a widow and the following children: George W.; John D.; Harriet J.; Tunis died in 1898 at the age of thirty-one years; Franklin S.; Della A.; L. Edgar, and Willard. Mrs. Hulick has assumed the cares and responsibilities of directing the estate and is in a commendable manner discharging all the duties incumbent upon her in this trying position, while she is rounding out a well spent and bright life of faithful service and manifestation of noble and upright principles.

    His tombstone in Cove cemetary, Cove, Oregon shows his year of death as 1873 not 1870. At this time I have not been able to find any official record of Lewis's death.
