After the close of the war he was a prosperous business man in Syracuse and De Ruyter, NY. He was a Republican and Commander of the G.A.R. post at De Ruyter. He was a teacher in the Baptist Sunday School, and active in church work.

He served afterwards as the Chief of Ambulance Corps of the Army of the Potomac. After some service in the ministry in Virginia, he removed to Washington, DC, where he died.
