  Reubin said he was of age, joined the Union Army as a drummer boy (he was 14). After the war when he was 18 he married Fascellina. They came to Texas Co., Montana from Illinois. After guiding the wagon trains of his family from Illinois to Kansas, Reuben was in demand as a wagon master from Illinois to Montana and Kentucky to Montana. He received a Kansas land grant and later bought land in Bates Co., Montana between Rich Hill and Hume. He farmed, drove a state coach, was a teamster for a house-drawn fire engine in Rich Hill, was a rural mail carrier (horse-drawn carriage). In 1885 Fascellina was driving a team and wagon to Hume when something frightened the team and they ran and was turned over. She died in the arms of her son Felix and is buried in Lawrence Cemetery. Later Reuben married Caroline, who had two children by another marriage. Felix said that she showed so much favoritism to her children and mistreated Reuben's younger ones that he and Ben ran her off. After this Reuben married Maggie and they raised an adopted daughter Lucille. Reuben carried the mail until just before he died in 1925. He left his favorite horse "Old Slim" and his watch to Felix Eddie, his grandson.
