July 23, 1868. ACCIDENT AT DORRVILLE.
On Wednesday, July 8th, Charlie W. Slocum, son of Mr. Orrin Slocum, a boy of some nine years, while on his way to school, was run over by an extra train of cars at Dorrville, and so severly injured, that he died in about four hours after the accident. He had his sences, and talked with his friends almost to the last. A coupling in the train broke, disengaging the rear cars from the foremost ones; and he, thinking it was done to switch off the rear cars, stepped onto the track, and was run over by that part of the train.
