The records at Nor. Stonington show his marriage, September 10, 1801, to Abigail Egglestone, but his pension papers show that he married September 9, 1802, Deborah Egglestone, and his grandson Jared F.Maine, son of Jared, says his grandmother was Deborah, as as Jared was born March 18, 1802, the records at No. Stonington are evidently in error as to the name of his wife. Deborah was born August 23, 1784, and died at the home of her son, William H. Main in Boscobel, Wis., May 21, 1880.

Was born 16 July 1776 on Canonicut Island, Jamestown Township, RI. At the coming of the British, in the Revolutionary War, the family fled in terror leaving the child behind. While those who entered the house were in the cellar refreshing themselves, an old colored woman (a slave) went for him, and carried him to his mother in her hiding place. He married Lucy Crandal who was born in 1780, daughter of Charles and Sara (Thompson). They resided in North Stonington or Mystic CT. They died, she 15 July 1822; he 7 Oct 1845 at Colebrook, CT at the home of his son Charles C.

RESEARCH DONE BY DOROTHY STEWART.
Richard Slocum was husband of Lucy, the third of three daughters of Charles Crandall and Sarah Thompson, later known as Sally Crandall.
They had 8 children who apparently inherited what in 1968 is known as the Flynn Farm in the northeasterly section of North Stonington, CT.
     They were: 1. Lucy, b. 26 Jan 1800, m. Sterry Park; 2. Richard, b. 21 Oct 1801; 3. Esther, b. 10 Jan 1803; 4. Sally, b. 18 Feb 1806; 5. Charles, b. 31 Jan 1809, went ot Colebrook, Conn.; 6. Polly, b. 10 Jan 1812, m. Phineas Holdridge; 7. James T., b. 5 Jan 1814; 8. Lucinda, b. 10 Jun 1816.
The rights of these children were purchased up by Stephen M. Palmer and the place became known by his name. Richard Slocum of Locke, in Cayuga County, NY, sold to Stephen on May 9, 1836, (5-203) 70 acres, bounded north on lands of Henry Babcock, east on lands of George Geer, Jr., south on lands of James Thompson and Rufus Main, and west on lands of Rowland Kenyon. The other lot being 18 acres bounded north by Oliver Palmer, east by said Oliver Palmer, south by land that Elder Miner sold to the Baldwins, and west by Joshua Thompson. Also 2 wood lots and my right in land set out to Sally Crandall, formerly wife of Capt. Charles Crandall, now deceased, as dower lying in Sterling. Meaning to convey 1/8th of the above lots it being land I bought of Sterry and Lucy Park, reference it being had to their deed.
On May 20, 1836, (5-204) Jonathan Stanton, guardian to George W. Thompson and Lucy Esther Thompson, minors, of Salem, Washington County, NY, deeds same by authority of the Plainfield District court for Windham County, two undivided eights, and on Page 206 Phineas and Polly Holdridge do the same. (On the latter the 18 acre plot is described as bounded north and east by Oliver Palmer, South on Asa and Simeon Baldwin, and west by Capt. Jonathan Stanton.
