CHENANGO COUNTY HISTORY, by Smith
    He is described a Major. He came from Stonington, Connecticut soon after 1800 and took up land about a mile north of Pharsalia, Chenango County, New York. He came in the spring, working one season and returned in the fall to Stonington. He returned on horseback that fall or following spring. He married soon after returning, it being the first contracted in the town.

NY and about 1823 to Volney, NY where he spent the last 8 years of his life. He served throughout the Rev. War, and was pensioned on Mar. 4, 1831. He died July 13, 1834.
She died in Volney, NY on Aug. 6, 1830.

    The names of three of Samuel's children are on the stones: Samuel who died in 1827, shortly before he did, at the age of 36, and two daughters by his second wife; Eunice A., who died in 1854 at the age of 45, and Harriet B. who died in 1849 at the age of 42.
    The deaths of two young children of Samuel Jr. and his wife and his wife Eliza are also recorded here.
