    Mercy and her husband were both members of the Road (Congregational) Church in Stonington.
    Mercy died 28 Jan 1752 at age 82 years and her husband died the previous year, age 89 years. both here buried in Wequetequock Burial Yard where a monument was erected to them in 1772 by six of their twelve children.

Mercy married John BREED [scrapbook], son of Allen BREED and Mary Elizabeth OSBORN, on 11 Apr 1689 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. John was born 18 Jan 1663 in Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts. He died 1751 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut and was buried in Wequetequock Burying Ground, Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut.

    He removed to Stonington CT where he purchased land of Greshom Palmer, the father of his wife. They were both buried at Wequetequock burial ground, and they were members of the First Congregational Church of Stonington CT.

    Scattered about this part of our town were the homes of many of the Breed family and it is still called Breedtown.
    The stone near the side doorstep of Mr. Henry Breed's house was one of the stones which Mr. John Breed had in his mill for tanning leather, when he lived a few rods west of this house, with his wife, who was the daughter of Deacon Gershom Palmer, whom he married in 1690.
    He came to Stonington and bought land of Dea. Gershom Palmer and married his daughter Mercy.
    At their graves in Wequetequock, we read, "In memory of a pious pair, this carved stone was erected here, viz, Mr. John Breed and his wife Mercy, who lived together in ye marriage state in a most religious manner about 64 years and then deceased, leaving numerous offspring. He in 1751 about ninety years of age and she in 1772 about 83 years. Erected in the year 1772 by six of their children then living.
        Behold the righteous live long on the earth,
        And in old age resign their breath,
        They and their offspring here are blessed:
        When done with life they go to rest."

    He established himself as a leather tanner in Stonington and one of the stones which he used in his mill may still be seen near the side door step of the home of Mr. Henry Breed. His old mansion, built in 1689, large, square and painted white was said to have rooms so large that 51 yards of carpet was required to cover the floor.

Jan. 8, 1690-1. Her mother was Ann, dau. of Capt. George Denison a distinguished soldier in King Philip's War. Mercy Palmer was b. in Stonington in 1668 and d. there Jan. 28, 1752. Her husband d. the year before and they are both buried in Wequetequock Burial Ground near Stonington.

Ann married Benjamin HEWITT Jr., son of Benjamin HEWITT and Mary FANNING, on 3 Mar 1706/1707 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. Benjamin was born 10 Aug 1688 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut and was christened 24 Jul 1692 in Road Church, Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut. He died before 12 May 1761 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut.

    Born in Stonington, Conn., Aug 1688 (VR) and baptised at the 1st Congregational Church of Stonington, 24 July 1692, son of Benjamin Hewitt and marie Fanning; died in Stonington in 1761. Benjamin married ANN PALMER on 3 Mar 1707 at Stonington (Wheeler). Ann was born about 1682 and baptised at the 1st Congregational Church of Stonington, 20 May 1683, daughter of Gershom Palmer and Ann Denison; no date for her death has been found but she was sitll living in Jan. 1760 at the time her husband drew up his will.
    Benjamin and Ann lived their lives on a farm in Stoningtohn. In his will written 3 Jan 1760 and probated 12 My 1761 (New London Probate Records, docket @2599), Benjamin left 1/3 of the land, the biggest room in the dwelling house, allo household goods, a cow and a mare to his wife Ann. Provisions were made for daughter Content to live with her mother until she married. Daughter Keziah and sons, Nathan and Jepthia, were given legacies of maney. Two grand-daughters (unnamed) and a grandson "if there is one", children of son Edmund who was deceased, were mentioned in the will.Sons, Walter and Abijah, were to divide the remainder of the estate equally and to be exedutors. The sons, Benjamin and Oliver, were not mentioned in the will so they eigher died young or predeceased their father and left no heirs.
    While no tombstones remain, both Benjamin and his wife Ann were buried in the Hewitt family cemetery locatedd in his brother Isreal Hewitt's orchard in Stonington. Isreal made note of their graves in his will when he set aside 1/2 an acre in his orchard to be a permanent burying grounds.
