THE WILL OF SAMUEL BROWN
        Item: I give & bequeath unto my Son Robert Brown the sum of ten dollars, to be paid to him by my Executor hereinafter named within One Year after my decease which together with what I have already given him is his queal share of my Estate.
    Page 99, Robert and his father, Samuel Brown, served in the Revolutionary War.
     Robert Brown bought land in Belchertown of Thomas Willson, Jan. 11, 1795, and on this place he and his two wives are buried. He bought land again, April 17, 1795, and on this place he and his first wife, Lydia D. Brown, died. On this last purchase there was a saw-mill. The proof is conclusive that Robert Brown, Jr. and the other children that follow, were born in Belchertown. [Probate Records, Northampton.]
    There is a tradition that when Robert and wife Lydia D. (Brown) Brown removed from Stonington, Conn., they went to Bridgewater, Mass., and from there he removed, with all his belongings in an ox-cart, to Belchertown, where he made a permanent home.

    .Nathan Brown, Jr. came to Pharsalia, New York from Belchertown, Mass. in February 1808 with his family consisting of his wife, 10 children and a black servant named Henry. He settled on lot #33 in the west part of Pharsalia, on the line of the town of Pitcher. It consisted of 100 acres, which later was owned by his son Ephraim. He served as town clerk for ten years as well as other offices.

     Nathan Brown Died June 2 1847 Aged 82 years 11 m & 15 ds
    Has DAR marker placed on the grave site. Entered the service as a substitute for his father.

He is described a Major. He came from Stonington, Connecticut soon after 1800 and took up land about a mile north of Pharsalia, Chenango County, New York. He came in the spring, working one season and returned in the fall to Stonington. He returned on horseback that fall or following spring. He married soon after returning, it being the first contracted in the town.
