  Lived in Wichita and Manhattan, KS, until moved to Logan, Utah, in 1931, when mother began teaching at Utah State Agricultural College. Moved to Wisconsin in fall of 1941 when his mother joined Wisconsin U. Extension
Service. Because her job required much traveling, he attended two years of senior high school at Todd School in Woodstock, Ill.

  He entered the Army in 1943 after graduation from high school and took basic infantry training at Ft. Benning, Georgia; Army Specialized Training Program at Indiana University for one quarter until the program ended; went to Co. A, 70th Armored Infantry Battalion, 20th Armored Division, at Camp Campbell, Ky., early in 1944 for training. Went overseas in 1945, serving in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria. Returned to U.S. on Aug. 6, 1945, slated to participate in invasion of Japan the following March. Atom bombs dropped on Japan precluded that invasion. Last service days at Camp Cook, Calif.

 Discharged as sergeant in February 1946 at Ft. Douglas, Utah. Began studies at Utah State spring quarter of 1946. Graduated in 1949. Took some graduate courses while wife continued school. While at college worked for Deseret News, Salt Lake City afternoon newspaper, as reporter in its Logan Bureau. Became Price, Utah, Bureau chief in 1950. Joined City Desk in Salt Lake City in 1951. Worked as reporter, composing room editor, assistant and associate city editor, and was city editor more than 13 years. Retired April 30, 1987, as assistant managing editor. Given Outstanding Performance Award as top employe for year 1975. Presented Distinguished Service award for editorial leadership, 1950-1987. Resides [2000] in Bountiful, Utah.

Louis married Kathleen DAINES, daughter of Hazen Benjamin DAINES Dr. and Sarah BUCK, on 3 Oct 1947 in Evanston, Uinta Co., Wyoming. Kathleen was born 6 Feb 1928 in New York City, Manhattan, New York.

  Daughter of Dr. Hazen B. Daines, M.D., and Sarah Buck Daines. Genealogy for
those two families has been compiled elsewhere. Born in New York City where
father attended medical school; lived in Ogden, UT, where he interned; Midvale
and Smithfield, UT, and Preston, Idaho, while he was in general practice; in
East Orange, N.J., when he specialized in opthalmology. He later practiced in
Boise and Nampa, Idaho. During World War II he served in the Army Medical Corps
and his family lived in Pendleton, Ore.; Pueblo, Colo., and Clearfield, Utah.
After graduating from Davis County High School in Kaysville, Utah, Kathleen
entered Utah State Agricultural College where she met and married her husband.
She was a housewife most of her married life but for 10 years was head
librarian at the Bountiful South Branch of the Davis County Library .
