    Stephen Avery was town clerk of Stonington from 1791 to 1807, when North Stonington was set off. He was town clerk of North Stonington until his death. He was selectman in 1797; representative in 1799.

    Darius Hewitt born in Stonington, Conn., 28 Oct 1771 (VR), son of Israel Hewitt and Tabitha Wheaton; died about 1802 (Avery), date and place unknown. Darius married WEALTHY AVERY, 23 Jun 1793 (VR), in Stonington, Conn. Wealthy was born in Stonington, 5 Oct 1772 (VR), daughter of Nathan Avery and Hannah Stoddard; she died at Stonington, 29 Dec. 1805 (Avery). After Darius died, she married 2nd, Capt. William Randall, 30 June 1803 (VR), in Stonington, Conn.
    Darius was a twin of his sister Diadama. They were 12 years old when their father, Israel Hewitt, died. The father's will stated that Darius was to have 5 acres of land and the dwelling house of the homestead farm when he was of age (Stonington Probate Records, docket #1618).
  There is little information on Darius. He does not appear on the Conn. census for 1790 or 1800. No cemetery marker has been found for Darius. He and Wealthy had only one child, a daughter named for her mother.

    Hon. William Randall (No. 71) was lieutenant colonel commandant of the 30th regiment of Connecticut militia during the war of 1812 (that office corresponding with colonel in later organizations), and had command of his regiment when it was called out in 1813/14, for the defense of the State, notably at Stonington in August, 1814. In the General Assembly of Connecticut during August 1814. In the General Assembly of Connecticut during six sessions, he was member of the Lower House, and in 1822 he had a seat in the Upper House, as one of the twelve Senators elected by the general ticket, of which that body was then composed.
     In 1818 he was a member of the convention which framed the Constitution of the State of Connecticut, as delegate from the town of Stonington. During sixteen consecutive years, from 1818 to 1833, inclusive, he held the position of associate judge of the county court of New London county, by annual appointment by the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut, by which authority he was also annually appointed a justice of the peace during twenty-eight years, and he held responsible office in the town of Stonington. Was first president of Stonington Bank, organized in 1822, and one of the directors thereof; he held the office for eight years.
    He married 1st Eunice Wheeler, March 8, 1787 (No. 103), that family. She died Jan. 29, 1803. He married 2d, Mrs. Wealthy (Avery) Hewitt, widow of Darius Hewitt, June 30, 1803 (No. 161), Avery family. She died Dec. 29, 1805. He married 3d, Martha Chesebrough March 30, 1809 (No. 325), that family. She died Sept. 25, 1870. Col. William Randall died June 17, 1841.

    He was in Waterman Clift's company, 1775; in Col. Swift's regiment, Aaron Stevens's company, from May, 1777 to Feb. 1780; was at Germantown, Valley Forge, Monmouth, Stony Point, and on the Hudson (Conn. Men in the Rev'n, 75, 100, 220, and Pension Application in file at Washington, DC). He moved to Eaton, NY, 1798, bringing one child, Alfred, not living in 1840. They had at Eaton a large family of children, whom they reared (Pension Application). He was living with D. Avery (probably his son) in 1840. Other children of whom we have no definite record.

Constant married Zipporah CHAPMAN, daughter of Joshua CHAPMAN and Sarah LEFFINGWELL, on 3 Apr 1796 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. Zipporah was born 25 Jan 1773 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. She died 5 Oct 1848 in Eaton, New York.

    Frederick Avery deeded to his brother, Constant Avery, land that he had of his father, Jacob Avery (Groton Deeds, 12:111). In the division of the estate of Mortimer Stoddard, Dec. 4, 1795, the heirs were the widow, Dorothy Stoddard; children Mortimer, Robert, Roswell, Daniel, Bathsheba, Button, Elizabeth Avery, Dorothy Stoddard and Zipporah Stoddard (Norwich Wills, 10:212). March 30, 1798, Frederick and Elizabeth Avery deeded away land that they had from father, Mortimer Stoddard (Groton Deeds, 12:490). They moved to North Broadalbin, New York about 1802.
