    She was highly educated, having taken the full course in Miss Willard's famous school followed by a course at Mount Union College. After her husband's death, wishing to retain the extensive landed property in which he had invested, she taught school for seven years and thus saved her children's heritage for them. She was the first president of the Decatur public library and was called the mother of education for that city. She laft her beautiful home to live with her youngest daughter, and died in St. Louis, April 2, 1900, loved by all who knew her.

M, first Wisconsin cavalry, from Dec., 1863 to Jul 22, 1865, being mustered out at the close of the war; was in all the battles of Atlanta campaign under Sherman; was graduated from Beloit College in 1866 and from Chicago Theological Seminar in 1869; after a successful career as pastor at Elgin, Pasadena, Los Angeles, Los Alamitas, and the establishing of missions in various parts of California, he retired to his fruit farm at Downey, California.

Dexter married Louise P. RAU on 4 May 1869 in Beloit, Wisconsin.

    She was a graduate from Albany Normal College in 1856. Mr. Abbott was for many years surgeon of the 67th reg't, NY inf'y, and went out with that reg't in June 1863. In the following year, he became colonel of the 98th reg't, which he enlisted and organized in about sixty days. He is a physician and surgeon and lives at Hamburg, NY.
