Wood, who, the Clan says, was the brother of William Wood.
Clan: Lucy Avery (Jonathan, James, James, Christopher), born 20 March 1709
at Groton. Details in Groton Avery Clan, pages 181, 182.
BET: Lucy Avery, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Bill) Avery. No date of
death, but last child, born Aug. 29, 1751.

Lucy married (1) Jonathan LEFFINGWELL, son of Daniel LEFFINGWELL and Sarah BILL, about 1736 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. Jonathan was born 21 May 1715 in Norwich, New London Co., Connecticut. He died before 2 Feb 1748/1749.

Lucy married Joseph YERRINGTON, son of Ezekiel YERRINGTON and Jerusha AVERY. Joseph was born 10 Mar 1743 in Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut.

Lucy also married (2) John WOOD Jr., son of John WOOD and Mary, on 2 Feb 1715 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. John was born about 1696 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. He died 1773/1774.

Sources: The Groton Avery Clan; Wood Family Index; Boston Evening Transcript of Nov. 17, 1930; 1st Congregational Church of Groton records, Film 4307.
BET (Answer to Note 2401): John Wood Jr. appears often on Groton land records.  In his later years he was harassed with debts and his lands gradually slipped away. There is no record of settlement of his estate, but a deed signed by his son-in-law Arthur Starkweather and wife Ruth on 13 April 1790, apparently shows her to be sole heir. It is for an acre and a half "which did formerly belong to John Wood of sd Groton, deceased." He was married three times. Name of first wife unknown. His second wife was Lucy (Avery) Leffingwell, widow of Jonathan and daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Bill) Avery. His third wife was Mary, surname probably Smith.
John Wood died early in 1744 (probably a typo, should be 1774), as another John Wood was called "2nd" until this time on town records. He and his family are probably buried in unmarked graves in the Old Wood Cemetery.
Church records: The wife wife of John Wood Jr. was among those in full communion before the Ordination (of the church) 22 Nov. 1727. This would be Mary, the first wife.
Clan: John Wood had a share in the Susquehanna company for the settlement of Wyoming, PA, under the Connecticut claim. Oct. 8, 1776, Benjamin Bailey, "late of Groton, now of Susquehanna," for a consideration, quitclaimed to John Wood of Groton, all right in six acres of land belonging to the heirs of the late Abel Avery of Groton.
  My estimate re birth date.
