Before her marriage she made the trip to Bridgewater, Oneida Co., NY, on horstback, with her four brothers. Returning to her home in Stonington, she was married, and then went with her husband in a carriage to Babcock Hill, Bridgewater, where they made a permanent settlement. She was the daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth (Palmer) Babcock [Oliver, James, James, John, James]. He father, Joshua Babcock, was a farmer and a merchant on Pendleton Hill, Conn. For about thirty years he was deacon of the Baptist Church, and for about twenty-seven years Justice of the Peace -- by virtue of which office he solemnized many marriages. Elizabeth Babcock had a brother Joshua who married Eunice Brown, daughter of Christopher and Margaret (Holmes) Brown. Christopher Brown lived two miles south of Pendleton Hill, and on this farm he is buried; also his father, Daniel (24). [For Joshua Babcock's record, see Babcock Genealogy, page 108]

He died in Center Rutland, Rutland Co., Vermont, 16 Jun 1833 (tombstone) and buried in the Center Rutland Cemetery. Amos married SARAH REYNOLDS, 8 Apr 1794, at Rutland, VT (Swan). Sarah was born in New York State about 1774, daughter of Jonathan and Rebekah Reynolds. She died in Riley Township, St. Claire Co., Michigan, 18 Apr 1859, age 85 years (tombstone). She was buried in the Memphis Cemetery in Macomb, Michigan.
    With his father and brothers, Amos left Canterbury, Conn. and settled in Pomfret, Windsor Co., Vermont in 1789. A few years later, he moved to the town of Rutland, VT. Amos was a farmer. He and Sarah raised a large family on their farm in Rutland. Amos's will dated 30 May 1833 and proven 1 Aug 1833 (Rutland Co., VT Probate Book 15, p. 350). Ref. Eugene D. Larson of 19175 Warwick Drive, Beverly Hills, Michigan 48025. After Amos died, Sarah went to live with some of her children in Michigan in 1837.

Daniel married KATHERINE ____ about 1789. Nothing is known of Katherine except that she was the mother of all of the children of Daniel. Left a young widow with 5 children under 12 years, Katherine probably married again.
    Daniel went to Vermont with his father and brothers about 1789. He and Katherine resided in Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont after their marriage. They lived there from 1790 to 1801, when he became ill, and they moved to Pomfret, Vermont to be near his parents.

    I have in my files a Katherine Hewitt naming the SAME children in her will. At the time of her will in 1813 she was called the relict of the Late Dr. Daniel Hewitt of Claredon, Vermont. The will was written on November 10, 1813 in Lansingburgh, New York. Her step father, Wait Rathbone, was a witness to her inventory. (Book 4 Page 397 file 231 Rensselear County, NY Surrogate Records.
     She was Catherine Palmer, born November 20, 1772 in Stonington, Connecticut (Book 3 Page 24) and died in Lansingburgh, NY October 23, 1813 (Lansingburgh, NY Gazette October 29, 1813 Obit) She was the daughter of William and Mary (Brown) Palmer. Catherine was raised in Stonington, Connecticut and in Lansingburgh, New York where her mother has moved with her step-father, Wait Rathbone.

She was buried in the South Cemetery at Brooklyn, beside 2 of her infant children.
    Thomas married 2nd, ELIZABETH DURKEE about 1803. Elizabeth was born in Pomfret, Windham Co., Conn., 26 May 1773 (VR), daughter of Benjamin Drukee and JoannaWilliams. She died in South Grandville, Washington Co., NY, 11 Sept 1824, in her 52nd year (tombstone) and was buried in the Lee Burying Ground at Grandville, NY.
    Thomas married 3rd., SALLY ____, who was listed as his wife at the sale of property of son, Cyrus Hewitt, in June 1829, and recorded 12 Jan 1930 (Land Records, Washington Co., NY., Liber AA, p. 531). Nothing further is known of Sally.
    Thomas and Serepta, his 1st wife, resided in Brooklyn, Conn. After her death, Thomas remarried and moved to Windsor Co., Vermont near his parents and brothers. He and Elizabeth, his 2nd wife, stayed there for a few years before moving to New York State and settling in Grandville, Washington Co. by 1808. He was still in Grandville at the time of the 1830 US census.
Thomas may have died there shortly after that year. No probate or cemetery records were found for Thomas and Sally.

    Henry was a young boy when his parents left Conn. for Vermont and settled in the village of Pomfret before 1790. He became a farmer. After his marriage, Henry and Hannah lived in Pomfret, VT except for a few years when they resided in nearby Barnard, VT. Henry inherited the family farm in Pomfret after his father's death in 1829.

    Joseph and his 1st wife, Jerusha, resided in Brooklyn, Conn. After her death, he moved to Pomfret, Vermont to be near his parents. Joseph and his 2nd wife, Rebecca, lived on their farm in Pomfret. She remained there after his early death, and raised their large family of children.
