information on Lena Egerter, born October 28, 1900 at 23 West 112 Street, NYC. George's occupation is listed as Iron Worker.

Henry Philip Zachmann

The son of Heinrich Zachmann and Elisabetha Egerter was born in 1891 and orphaned in around 1905.  Henry joined the United Stated Army at 16 years of age in about 1907. He was assigned to the U.S. Cavalry and served on the Mexican Border during the troubles with Poncho Villa. Although he was born on the streets of New York City, he was reportedly quite an accomplished horseman.

Henry married Agnes Hurttle, and they had three children: Henry Wilfred born 1913, Margaret born 1916, and Dorothy born in 1923. Remaining in the military he later moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where he worked at Arlington Cemetery.  He passed away in May of 1980, while residing with his family in Conway, South Carolina.

Gustave Zachmann

After allot of painstaking research in the New York City archives I was able to locate Gus' birth certificate. The other son of Heinrich Zachmann and Elisabetha Egerter, his given name was actually George Albert Zachmann, not Gustave. He was born on January 10, 1893, at 329 East 83rd Street, New York, New York his parents were listed as Heinrich Zachmann and Elizabeth Eggerson.  The birth certificate states that at the time of that record Henry and Elizabeth had six children (6) and only (2) were still living, she was 25 years old.

Gus remained in New York City, working in various occupations, including Boiler maker/fireman and school custodian. He married Anna Schadel and they had six  (6) children.  The five boys were Henry, William, Charles, Herman and George, and one daughter Frida.

I was able to locate Gustave, and his family, in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, (287 East 135th Street), Bronx, New York in 1920.  At this time several of his in-laws, Schadels, were enumerated and recorded as living with him.

Note: The Mott haven section of the Bronx was named after Jordon L. Mott who owned and operated an iron foundry on Third Avenue, between 134th Street and the Harlem River.

Gus passed away on February 27, 1952, while residing at 521 East 151 Street, Bronx.  On his death certificate his parents were listed as Henry Zachmann and Elizabeth Egerter.
(Although several spellings exist for Elizabeth's maiden name, Egerter is the correct spelling.)

The birth certificate for my great-grandfather Gus listed his father as Henry, age as 26, this would place his year of birth in 1867.
