My name is Jenny Anderton and I am the FreeCEN coordinator for a number of county projects in the northwest of England. The current projects, by county and census year, are shown above.
My personal interest in Family History started with my husband’s ancestors in Kirkham, Lancashire. After several years researching that area I came across FreeCEN and decided that I would like to help transcribe the census for Lancashire. I gave it a try, found I enjoyed it and the rest is history.
Through transcribing I have found out a great deal about the social mobility of people in the County, their pastimes and their occupations, which together have built into an interesting overview of the area. Liverpool is a challenge, with its overcrowding and amazing array of names and nationalities from all over the world. Each area in Lancashire has a feel of its own from which a great deal can be learnt.
Please explore the site a bit more. If you are interested in helping, but do not want to start with a whole census piece, then short sections are available. To volunteer, or for further information, please contact me, Jenny Anderton.
