George NYLEVE He married Keziah (Kezia).
Other marriages/relationships: BROWN, Elizabeth, GATRILL, Matilda
No sign of a baptism for George Nyleve (or an illegitimate son of John Evelyn) has been found in the indexes to the ecclesiastical returns from India, nor in the microfilms of pages for Calcutta, before 1790, the year that John Evelyn returned to England.
(Identification of George Nyleve, husband of Keziah, and George Nyleve, son of John EVELYN and (supposedly) a woman in India (described as "half-caste" in "The History of the Evelyn Family", Evelyn, 1915), has been verified by the facts that
1. Keziah's husband was a painter, and the George Nyleve that died in 1843, with daughter Kezia, was an artist;
2. the George Nyleve that died in 1843 said the papers for his property in Sidmouth were with those of the late John Evelyn. In John Evelyn's own will (according to Helen Evelyn in The History of the Evelyn Family) he left a property in Sidmouth to his natural son George Nyleve.)George Nyleve, husband of Keziah, is described as Painter in 1814, 1829 (daughters' baptismal records).
He lived at 61 Wood Street in 1813, 1814, 1823 (daughter's baptismal record, daughter & wife's burial records).
He lived in Hungerford Market in 1829 (daughter's baptismal record).
In 1840, when he wrote his will, George was living at 3, Harvey Buildings, Strand, London. At the time of the 1841 Census, he was at the same address with Matilda Nyleve and Mary Ann Romain, among others. In the Census, his birthplace was given as India.
The death of George Nyleve was registered on 5 May 1843 in St Mary, Newington, Surrey by Matilda Nyleve, who had been in attendance. (She is likely to be the person described as Matilda Gatrill Spinster when proving the will, of which she was a major beneficiary.)
He died on 3 May 1843, age 58, at Amelia Street (death certificate) or Amelia Place (stated by the witnesses to his will).
If his age was correctly specified, he would have been born about 1785, two years before John Evelyn's marriage to Anne Shee, and have been about 5 years old when John Evelyn returned with Anne and their two legitimate sons to the British Isles.
His age is entered as 55 in the 1841 Census, and his profession given as Artist.
Matilda Nyleve gave 27 Amelia Street as her address when registering the death, and made her mark.
The cause of death was given as "Chronic disease of the Bowels".
George's occupation was given as Artist when his Death was registered.

Matilda GATRILL was entered with an age of 30 in the 1841 Census (assuming Matilda Gatrill and Matilda Nyleve are the same person). (If the enumerator had obeyed his instructions, she would then have been 30-34 years old.)
She is mentioned in George Nyleve's Will in 1840 in preference to his wife Elizabeth. He gave her authority over his property when away from London in 1840. They were in the same household at the time of the 1841 Census. She was in attendance at his death in 1843. She was a residuary legatee. She registered the death. She used the name Nyleve (1841 Census and registering George's death), although described in the Will and the Death Duty Register as Gatrill.
