JOHN LAWLEY was born January 20, 1797 in North Carolina, and died July 27, 1877 in Shelby County, Alabama-on 1850 Shelby County census.  He married (1) KIZIAH LOVE November 25, 1819 in Ashville, St. Clair County, Alabama-alternate date Nov. 14, daughter of SAMUEL LOVE and ELIZABETH NATION.  She was born January 08, 1803 in South Carolina-alternate date Jan 9, and died July 27, 1833 probably in St. Clair County, Alabama.  He married (2) MAHALA JANE SEALE December 14, 1834 in St. Clair County, Alabama, daughter of JAMES SEALE and LOUIZA.  She was born June 30, 1816 in Fairfield County, South Carolina, and died August 26, 1893 in Shelby County, Alabama-died listening to her 2^nd husband preach.

 State of Alabama, St. Clair County - Know all men by these presents that we John Lawley of the one part and Hugh Copeland of the other part all of the County and state aforesaid witnessth the said John Lawley and Kiziah Lawley his wife bargined sold and delivered and by these presents do bargin sell and deliver unto Hugh Copeland a certain tract or parcel of land being and lying and situated as follows seventeenth township of range two east section twenty six west half of the south east quarter containing seventy nine acres and forty seven hundreds of an acre for an in consideration of the sum of two hundred and twenty five dollars to us in hand paid the receipt where of is hereby Acknowledged the said John Lawley and Kisiah Lawley his wife doth by these presents warrant and forever? defend? the wrights of the above described land? unto said Hugh Copeland his ares (sic) and assigns forever from us and our executors, administrators or assigns and all and every person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof we hereunto set our names and affix our seals this twenty fourth day of December in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven.

 Probate Court Shelby County Alabama Special Term August 14, 1877 - It being shown to the Court that John Lawley who was at the time an inhabitant of this county died intestate leaving an estate and that more than fifteen days have elapsed since his death was known and Mrs. Mahala J. Lawley the widow of deceased having filed in Court a written waiver of her right to administer on said estate and request that John J. Lawley the son and James W. Henderson the son in law of deceased be appointed administrators of said estate and it appearing that they are suitable and proper persons to be appointed and being willing to qualify and act It is ordered by teh Court that said John J. Lawley and James W. Henderson be and they are hereby appointed administrators of said estate of John Lawley deceased upon their entering into bond in the sum of Four thousand dollars payable and continued/conditioned? as required by sections 2003 and 2004 of the Revised Code of Alabama.  It is further ordered by the court that the bond given by said John J. Lawley and James W. Henderson with R.W. Cooke John A. Coshatt and Neely Webster as securities payable and conditions and in the amout as above required be and the same is hereby approved that it be filed and recorded and that letters of adminstration ? to them.  It is further ordered by the Court that James S. Duysk and J.W. Spradly and Jerry Stewart be and they are hereby appointed appraisers of said estate and that they report to this court under oath.

 Probate Court Shelby County Alabama Special Term February 7, 1881. - This day under previous order of this Court cause up to be heard and determined the account current? and vouchers filed by James W. Henderson and John J. Lawley administrators of the estate of John Lawley deceased for partial settlement of said estate cause the said administrations and cause also Wm. B. HIRAM WASHINGTON LAWLEY was born August 12, 1822 in St. Clair County, Alabama-was a Methodist minister and a Mason, and died August 07, 1892 in Dyke's Mill, Shelby County, Alabama.  He is buried Lawley's Chapel Cemetery, Dyke's Mill, Shelby County, Alabama.  He married LOUZANIE F. HALE July 02, 1844 in Tennessee, daughter of JOHN HALE and MARGARET.  She was born about 1825 in Tennessee-member of the Eastern Star, and died May 14, 1899 and is buried Lawley's Chapel Cemetery, Dykes Mill, Shelby County, Alabama.

The Peck Lawley house hearth rock measured 5'X2'x9".  It was placed in the upstairs great room at the Frank Partridge log house 10 Dec 1979 at approximately 2:45 p.m. CST.  It was moved (within a few days) to the foot of the front steps of the house.  It was thought to be too heavy to be inside.

ELISHA LAWLEY was born March 11, 1826 in St. Clair County, Alabama, and died after March 20, 1899 in Louisiana.  He married CAROLINE E. DAVIS July 22, 1847 in Shelby County, Alabama.  She was born about 1832 in Georgia.

According to the records of Lawrence L. Carr, Elisha Lawley and his family were in the village of Mt. Lebanon, Louisiana when John Lawley's estate was being probated.  This was in Bienville Parish.  They were not in Bienville Parish when the 1870 census was taken.  Lawrence eventually found the family in the Choctaw County, Mississippi census of 1870.  Elisha was in Arcadia, Louisiana on August 30, 1879.  On 1860 Shelby County, Alabama census, Harpersville PO, p. 356, household 791-791. On 1870 Choctaw County, Mississippi census, Township 18, Range 15, Ada PO, p. 414, household 15-15. On 1880 Bienville Parish, Louisiana census, Ward 1, SD 2, ED 6, p. 548B, household 394-394.

EURANNA (NANNIE) LAWLEY was born April 06, 1828 in St. Clair County, Alabama, and died after March 20, 1899.  By August 30, 1879 she was residing in Choctaw County, Mississippi.  She married MADISON D. HARRIS January 09, 1848 in St. Clair County, Alabama, son of THOMAS HARRIS and SARAH.  He was born about 1831 in Tennessee, and died before August 1879.  On 1870 Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, Beat 2, Starkville, p. 353, household 775-740.
