TO HUGH COPELAND State of Alabama,
St. Clair County - Know all men by these presents that we John Lawley of the one
part and Hugh Copeland of the other part all of the County and state aforesaid
witnessth the said John Lawley and Kiziah Lawley his wife bargined sold and
delivered and by these presents do bargin sell and deliver unto Hugh Copeland a
certain tract or parcel of land being and lying and situated as follows
seventeenth township of range two east section twenty six west half of the south
east quarter containing seventy nine acres and forty seven hundreds of an acre
for an in consideration of the sum of two hundred and twenty five dollars to us
in hand paid the receipt where of is hereby Acknowledged the said John Lawley
and Kisiah Lawley his wife doth by these presents warrant and forever? defend?
the wrights of the above described land? unto said Hugh Copeland his ares (sic)
and assigns forever from us and our executors, administrators or assigns and all
and every person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof we hereunto set our
names and affix our seals this twenty fourth day of December in the year of our

1873-1886 - SHELBY COUNTY ALABAMA Probate Court
Shelby County Alabama Special Term August 14, 1877 - It being shown to the Court
that John Lawley who was at the time an inhabitant of this county died intestate
leaving an estate and that more than fifteen days have elapsed since his death
was known and Mrs. Mahala J. Lawley the widow of deceased having filed in Court
a written waiver of her right to administer on said estate and request that John
J. Lawley the son and James W. Henderson the son in law of deceased be appointed
administrators of said estate and it appearing that they are suitable and proper
persons to be appointed and being willing to qualify and act It is ordered by
teh Court that said John J. Lawley and James W. Henderson be and they are hereby
appointed administrators of said estate of John Lawley deceased upon their
entering into bond in the sum of Four thousand dollars payable and
continued/conditioned? as required by sections 2003 and 2004 of the Revised Code
of Alabama. It is further ordered
by the court that the bond given by said John J. Lawley and James W. Henderson
with R.W. Cooke John A. Coshatt and Neely Webster as securities payable and
conditions and in the amout as above required be and the same is hereby approved
that it be filed and recorded and that letters of adminstration ? to them. It is further ordered by the Court that James S. Duysk and
J.W. Spradly and Jerry Stewart be and they are hereby appointed appraisers of
said estate and that they report to this court under oath. LAWLEY, JOHN -
ESTATE, FEBY 7, 1881 Probate Court
Shelby County Alabama Special Term February 7, 1881. - This day under previous
order of this Court cause up to be heard and determined the account current? and
vouchers filed by James W. Henderson and John J. Lawley administrators of the
estate of John Lawley deceased for partial settlement of said estate cause the
said administrations and cause also Wm. B. Browne Esq the guardian ad litem
appointed by the Court to represent the minor heirs of said estate on this
settlement no other person appearing to contest the same and if appearing to the
court that notice has been given by publication for two? three? successive weks
and by posting notices at the door fo the court house and
two other public places the court proceeded to hear and determine said
account and it appearing to the court that said administrators have charged
themselves with all the assets of said estate with which they are chargeable on
this settlement and that they are by law entitled to the credits asked.
It is ordered adjudged and decreed by the court that said account be
approved allowed and recorded by which it is shown that said administrators have
received assets to the amount of Nine hundred
and fifty 66/100 dollars and are entitled to credits the sum of five
hundred and seven 16/100 dollars leaving for distribution the sum of four
hundred and forty three 50/100 dollars which being distributed give to Filedon
Lawley Twenty six 08/100 dollars to Catherine Bradshaw & Marion Bradshaw her
husband twenty six 08/100 dollars to Mahala Sprewell & Jeptha Sprewell

records of Lawrence L. Carr, Elisha Lawley and his family were in the village of
Mt. Lebanon, Louisiana when John Lawley's estate was being probated.
This was in Bienville Parish. They
were not in Bienville Parish when the 1870 census was taken.
Lawrence eventually found the family in the Choctaw County, Mississippi
census of 1870. Elisha was in
Arcadia, Louisiana on August 30, 1879. |
