I will do my best to get this right but I will also need to refer some things to others.
Per rootsweb.com/pub/usgen/ok/carter/cemetaries/carter2w.txt,
Squair Mark Wilson, b.11/18/1866, d. 5/11/1943
is buried in Keller Cemetery, Carter Co.
Oklahoma. This is just west of Ardmore, OK
and would be near the small town of Wilson,
OK. The name and birthdate match pretty well and it also matches
family oral history.
My g-grandfather, Cyrus Matterson Wilson,
b. 6/19/1860, d. 2/1/1908 married Mary Margarette
(Molly) Paul on 1/16/1881 in Russell Springs,
Ky. Molly b. 8/8/1866, d. 5/20/1927.
They sold their farm (possibly due to
heavy debt) in KY to the Hopper family and I understand that it was still
owned by a Selby Hopper until a few years
ago. I understand that Selby has passed on now. Cyrus and Molly
had 13 children. At least the first
four were born in Kentucky. In 1890 they headed for Texas.
The children were:
Simeon Everett Wilson - 11/3/1881
Malcolm Wilson - 3/1892
Newton Wilson, 11/1888
Lester Wilson, 12/1898
Albert (Buster) Wilson, 1908
Milton (Mitt) Wilson, 3/5/1893 - my grandfather
- d. 3/15/1982, buried at Wheeler, TX
married 10/16/1916 to Winnie Miller, b.
6/26/1895 near Stevenville, TX, d. 8/7/1961also buried at Wheeler
Cora Wilson - 9/30/1891
Druscilla Wilson - 6/1883
Hedy Wilson - died at age 5
Viola Wilson - 1886
Mark Wilson - 4/1885
Gladys Wilson
Cyrus was apparently known as Matt.
Both Matt and Molly are buried in a small cemetery to the NE of Gordon,
TX.
I have pictures of Matt's grave but did
not locate Molly's.
Most of the info about Matt that I have
came from a grandson of Simeon Everett Wilson. I have
not been able to relocate this cousin
recently but have a fairly lengthy summary he prepared of the family.
Apparently he located the Selby Hopper
farm and visited the old Wilson log cabin sometime in the 1980's.
He managed to rummage through the attic
and locate a few old letters from Matt to his parents Sampson and Lucia.
It was this cousin who managed to identify
that Sampson's grave is on this farm.
I forwarded a copy of this document to
Stands Alone in the Moon a couple of years ago.
I note that your website attributes several
things to Stands Alone.
My own grandparents I knew well.
Mitt and Winnie Wilson raised seven children near Briscoe, TX
with the oldest being born in 1917.
Only one has passed on at this time so I hesitate to provide much
info on the line. My father was
the third of the seven.
Well, I'm sure I have bored you to tears.
Does anyone have any information on Wilson's
that may have served in the Civil War?? Either side???
My ggg grandfather and his two brothers
on my mother's side were in the 85th Illinois Volunteers and
fought at the battle of Perryville, KY
in 1862.
