San Bernardino yesterday at 1047 West Third Street according to H. A. R. Carleton, social welfare director at the Volunteers' Los Angeles headquarter. The new welfare unit will provide work for handicapped and needy persons through the repair and reconditioning of house hold articles and other materials contributed in this district, according to Carleton, George F. Under the system to be established, Volunteers of America trucks will call at San Bernardino homes to pick up any discarded clothing, shoes, furniture, household appliances and other articles for which housewives have no further use for reconditioning. In this way both men and materials will be rehabilitated and a number of needy persons will be given a chance to become self supporting. Carleton explained. The repaired articles will be made available to buyers at small charges sufficient to cover the cost of their reconditioning with the materials to be placed on display beginning Saturday.
