McAninch Pleads Not Guilty in Justice Colurt to Slaying Mrs. Anna Forell Stuart H. McAninch, 43-year old San Bernardno real estate salesman, accused of the death of Mrs. Anna Forsel, 47 , pleaded not guilty to a murder charge when he was arraigned in the San Bernardino justice court yesterday. Justice Russell A. Wickizer ordered McAninch held in the county jail without bail and set the preliminary hearing for 11 a.m. Jan. 4. The hearing will require several hours, said Attorney James L. King, who represents McAninch. The charge of murder against McAninch was sworn to by Newton E. Forsell of Bakersfield, husband of the slain woman. Her body was found early Dec. 19, lying in a ditch at the side of South G street about 200 feet north of Mill street. A coroner's jury found that they woman had been murdered. McAninch was arrested a few hours after the body was discovered by a truck driver. Officers assert his car was the one which struck the woman. Mc Aninchh was stoutly denied he was driving the car the night Mrs. Forsell was killed. He said his auto was stolen while he was attending a theater and he recovered it several hours later, a short distance from where he left it. Sheriff's officers assert that McAninch had not been able to satisfactorily explain his movements the night Mrs. Forsell met her death and could give but few details of a show he said he attended. Shattered glass, found on the road where Mrs. Forsell was stuck and glass found in a vacant lot on Thirteenth street, are said by officers to link the car of McAninch with the death. glass, tossed in a vacant lot matches that found at the accient scene and a sliver of glass found on the running board of the car after McAninch was taken into custody also is from the same lens, according to officers. |
