HEARING SLATED ON GHOST TOWN GIFT TO COUNTY
THE SUN NEWSPAPER
July 3,1963
The Board of Supervisors voted yesterday to hold a public hearing before deciding whether to accept Calico Ghost Town as a figt from Walter S. Knott.

The offer from the developer of Knott's Berry Farm came before the board publicly for the first time yesterday. County officials confirmed last week they had been in contact with Knott and had received the offer.

The public hearing will be at 3 p.m., July 22 in the Board of Supervisors chambers.

Supervisor Ross Dass asked for the public hearing because he said people from the area surrounding Calico (east of Barstow) had questions about the effect of the offer on mining claims and the tax base.

Robert A. Covington county administrative officer, had said that ghost town operation will presumably be leased back to Knott.
