Notes

Aka: RANULF.Ranulph Reynolds Bacon-Thorpe. Cutter says he was known as Ralph de Bacons-Thorpe (thorp means village). In Colonial Families of the United States, Ralph is called "Ran(d)ulf." There were several places called Thorp in Norfolk and he added this name to distinguish him from other lords of Thorp.

From: Jacqueline U Oliver juoliver@erols.com
SRC: "The Family of Bacon" by Baldwin (DAR) IGI VA RM 12/95
Grimbald came from Normandy at the time of the conquest and settled at Letheringsete near Holt in the county of Norfolk where he had grants of land. He had three sons: Rudolf, who became the Lord of Letheringsete; Ranulf, and Edmund. The latter was appointed rector of the Church of Letheringsete, which was founded by his father. The son Ranulf, or Reynolds, resided at Thorp, Norfolk. The word Thorp is said to have been the Saxon name for village.
Another Source at DAR "The Ancestors of Socrates Bacon" by Lodonna Gulley Warrack. Scholars believe that the family living in England descends from Grimbald "the Norman". a member of William the Conqueror's invading force that attacked Hastings on English shores in 1066."
