Princess PAULINE BONAPARTE of Italy

20 Oct 1780 - 9 Jun 1825

ID Number: I95403

  • TITLE: Princess
  • RESIDENCE: Italy and France
  • BIRTH: 20 Oct 1780, Ajaccio, Corsica
  • DEATH: 9 Jun 1825, Florence, Italie
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3444]
Father: CARLO Maria BONAPARTE
Mother: Laetizia RAMOLINO of Naples

Notes

Pauline Bonaparte Princess of Italy 1780-1825

Of all his siblings, Pauline was the most liked by Napoleon Bonaparte. The pair had a special bond that allowed the emperor to overlook his sister's wild ways and extravagant lifestyle.

Her first marriage, in 1797, was a happy one with General Victor Leclerc who, unfortunately, died from fever in 1802.

The second, less successful one, was to Prince Borghese but, being related to the ruler of France, Pauline spent most of her time in Paris.

Her loyalty to Napoleon was limitless and she was the only one of his relatives to visit during his exile on Elba.

Marriage Date: 1797 Husband: Emmanuel LECLERC
Marriage Date: 1803 Husband: Camillo BORGHESE

"The Trader Hughes Story (one version)

THE LEGEND:
Most histories of Amherst County, Va recount the first settler in the area as being an Indian trader known as "Trader Hughes". He, along with his Indian wife, Nicketti, established a trading post on the James River about a half-mile west of the mouth of Otter Creek. (From present day maps, this location would be near 70.367371 degrees by 37.561035 degrees.)

The date of this trading station has been put between 1710 and 1720. This location was where several Indian paths intersected and near the river access to the "Valley of Virginia". This must have been a busy intersection by 1710 standards!

According to Dr. William Cabell, HUGHES had the first stone chimney in the area, which qualified him at the first permanent settler. Hughes' wife, Nicketti, is said to be descended from the legendary Indian Chief Opechanacanough Powhatan and related to Pocahontas.

Trader HUGHES and his wife had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth HUGHES, who was born in Jamestown about 1650. She married an Welsh settler named Nathaniel Davis about 1680. They had a daughter in 1711 named Abadiah Davis who married William Floyd and their son John Floyd played an important part of the formation of Amherst Co. and later became governor of Va. It is said, Jefferson
Davis, President of the CSA, is descended from Nathaniel DAVIS through his son Nathaniel Robert DAVIS, who was born about 1676."
