Notes

"Born: Not Known - Died: 878 - Marriage: Not Known - Offspring: Constantine and Donald. Aed succeeded Constantine I, but only held the thrown for about a year before he was killed by his cousin Giric, also known as Gregory the Great, at Strathallan. Not much is known of Aed, or even if he was actually the one named by Constantine to hold the thrown."

Hugh, King of SCOTLAND b. ABT 838 Scotland d. 878. Aedh[Ethus] (Swift Foot) King of Scotland.

Aedh had Constantine III, King of Scots, who had Indulf, King of Scots, who had Colin, King of Scots, who had Constantine IV, King of Scots.

"The fragments of Irish Annals published by the Irish Archaeological Society state that in 852 a battle was given by Aedh, King of Ailech, to the fleet of the Gallgaidhel, who were said to be Scots and foster-children of the Northmen, and who themselves were formerly called Northmen. They were defeated and slain by Aedh, many heads being carried off as trophies by himself and Niall. The Irish justified their action on this occasion by saying that "these men were wont to act like Lochlans" (Northmen). Again it is stated of them in 858 that the Gallgaidhel were "a people who had renounced their baptism, and were usually called Northmen, for they had the customs of the Northmen, and had been fostered by them, and though the original Northmen were bad to the churches, these were by far worse in whatever part of Erin they used to be." In 866 a large fleet of Danish pirates, under command of Halfdan and his two brothers, arrived off the coast of England. After spending the winter in East Anglia, they invaded Northumbria, took the city of York, killed the two rival claimants to the Northumbrian throne, and made Ecgberht king. He ruled for six years, and was succeeded by Ricsig."

Notes

MARIA MARSHALL, b. at "Walnut Grove," Mason Co., Ky., July 20, 1795; d. in Columbus, O., February 6, 1824; married May 2, 1811, JAMES A. PAXTON, b. in Rockbridge Co., Va., September 13, 1788; d. in Washington, Ky., October 23, 1825.

My mother died when I was but four years old; yet I remember some of the circumstances, and can recall the sad pageant of her burial. She was buried in the Franklinton Cemetery, but, a few years ago, we had her dust removed to the Columbus Cemetery, and laid beside her sister, Mrs. Sullivant. We erected a neat monument, to preserve her memory. I have often heard my mother praised for her lovely yet fragile form, and for her amiable disposition. Her house was the home of her relatives. She inherited from the McDowell's sweetness, modesty and purity, and from the Marshalls intelligence, vivacity and spirit.
